Hello everyone from sunny Benidorm.
A bottle of red and late night EBay before we left and I’m the proud owner of a ‘spares or repair’ 2.5i with a good spec, lovely sounding engine and a bunch of electrical gremlins following a longstanding flat battery (2 years) and a hasty jump start.
Will see it tomorrow when we get home, it was delivered on a trailer!
Project before spring arrives.
I may be calling on you experienced folk for advice.
Regards Tony

Welcome to the club..

The "gremlins" you refer to could well be caused by it going into "transport mode" due to the flat battery, nice easy fix if that's the problem!

Mike

Hi and welcome. Probably find most if not all the gremlins will disappear when you have fitted a new battery.

Don't forget

:worthless:

Yes - we need pics. Sometimes folk on here can see the gremlins from the pic! :P

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum OP!

A bottle of red in Benidorm on Ebay - the perfect way to buy a car!

Good luck sorting the gremlins, and don't forget the photos. :)

Yet another bottle of red.
Home tomorrow at 3.00pm, pick up new battery, MOT booked for 5.00pm after the best car wash in town for £10 inside & out.
Maybe tears.
Will let you know..

Photos to follow later (who wants to see a green Z4?)

Welcome to the forum. :D There are plenty of folk here who know how to turn a spanner on a Z4. Not that I'm one of them. I just love driving mine. :D

Oxford green I am assuming, unless it the very rare camo green.

Ah no, the green disappeared at the car wash, we now have very respectable Titan Silver.
Pictures when the roof works.

Ah, it has been sat around a while then! :o

Good luck bringing it back to life!

Sorry everyone, still no pictures. Actually no car at the moment.
Managed to check it was out of 'transport mode' but struggled with communication any further so passed the car to a local garage for a quick fix. They believe the BCU is faulty and have sent it away for repair, (Almost 3 weeks ago) Chasing today they advised it couldn't be repaired due to unavailability of parts!
If I buy a second hand unit will it be possible to code the immobiliser using either INPA or NCS Expert? I've been told by the garage that only BMW can recode the immobiliser but find this somewhat doubtful.
My only consolation is that it's still raining so don't miss the car yet.
Cheers Tony

Hello again, lost the car almost 3 weeks with a so called "specialist" and no further forward. Apparently there's a CAN line down which stops communication with the diagnostic kit.
Finally realised I could raise the windows by holding the key in 'comfort mode'
I'm going for the substitution method now, replaced the GM5 Body control module but now lost the remote locking from the key, everything else remains the same. DIS shows the GM5 as no further action required but still a missing CAN link. Waiting for a replacement instrument cluster as I understand this forms part of the communication path.
Summers coming and I want the roof off or at least the aircon working or even the windows down by choice, Oh and working wipers would be good, and a radio, SAT nav. warning lights and even possibly the horn.
Where's that bottle of red wine.....
Tony

Success - the ZED's not dead.
After time & money wasted with so called 'BMW experts' I finally tracked most of my problems down to the airbag ECU located behind the handbrake.
Anyone have experience of 'Crashdata UK' for repairing ecu's? Mine appears to be full of sticky goo and not sure if they just offer a reset service.
Mike is fixing the hood next week so should be good to go for the summer.
Love the car.

Good to hear you’re getting somewhere with it Tony
