Ceramic Coating vs PPF

Hi All,

Protection of paint is a relatively new field for me, but having just invested in a Black G29 I feel it is something I should pay more attention to.
Therefore my question is this - Is Ceramic Coating and PPF two different options of which you could choose one and if so which is better ? Or are they something that should be done together ?
Apologies if this opens a hornets nest, but I look forward to thoughts.

Two different solutions for different problems at different price points.

Protection from the elements and swirls, and ease of cleaning = coating.

PPF is for when you want to go further and protect against stone chips.

PPF for front wings, bonnet, lights and door mirrors, as mentioned, for stone chip protection. The PPF should be coated with 'Halo' ceramic coating and the rest of the car should have a ceramic coating to protect against the elements.

How big is your bank balance?

I've got mine ceramic coated. My 718 was aso ceramic coated. I can see the benefits of PPF for the areas [ref]BeeEmm[/ref], mentions, but personally it's not something I considered.

In 3 years of owning the 718, it got a contact wash twice. Car wasn't garaged and looked as good as new when I sold it.
The G29 has had one contact wash in the 14 or so months I've had it. Mostly I rinse, snowfoam, rinse and dry with a microfibre towel.

This was a week ago.

Black, I would get a ceramic coat professionally done like Scubaregs which I suspect cost circa £700?

I have a San Francisco red as above and used a spray on ceramic coating which if done properly, lasts about 4-6 months and costs about £20. So it depends on the depth of your pockets.

When mine is a year or two older I may consider a professional detailing job.

The ceramic coating isn't the expensive part, it's the time to do the paint correction.

The PPF is to protect against stone chips but can behave in a similar way to a car's normal paint finish. A ceramic coating specially designed for PPF will give a lustre like that on the bodywork. You can use wax of course, but that has to be applied more regularly.

B, in my case i use suntek REACTION ( slightly biased as my shop is a proper suntek install centre ) which has the ceramic layer applied at the factory. The water behavior is fantastic. I advise my customers to go for front end, or partial front end, windscreen protection film with ceramics for the rest of the car. its more cost effective and a really robust solution. Full body PPF is simply not viable for most of the general public. The finish however is unreal it really gives the car a different GLOW.

Windscreen films are also very new to market with ALOT of development behind the scenes and i'm installing LOTs on URUS's due to the cost of the screens.

Ceramics offer fantastic bang for buck and goo quality once are roughly 5-6 times harder than the clear applied by factory.
