Centre console light switch. Any clue on how to attach?

So ever since i got my car, the centre console light never switched off. didn't bother with this. After reorganizing my centre storage, a plastic piece came off, when trying to fit that, i discovered a switch. Thought it was for the telephone system so i ignored it, but pressed it anyways and lo and behold, the centre storage light turned off!

I was wondering, how do i attach the microswitch back? is there an orientation i need to clip it back? i was fiddling with it for a long time and then decided to come running here for help. Hope i don't have to remove a lot of crap just to re attach this tiny switch

The storage door should have a lug on the bottom, that passes through that slot and operates the switch.
Bit dark here now to try to get a photo for you, sorry.
That lug is prone to breaking off, so check it is there first. From there it should be relatively easy to work out which way the switch fits, with the metal strip orientated so the lug operates it.

EDIT, looked closely again at your switch and it looks like the metal strip is missing.
It is the same switch as the parcel shelf one in the boot, with a question mark shaped bit of metal which closes the contact.

Wow. you explained that pretty well actually. the lug is the plastic bit the switch rests on right? i found that without having to remove the door. just a bit of fiddling and the door at certain angles and i can see the lug/plastic bit which i assume youre talking about. switch slides perfectly onto that with the switch angled upward.

Saw a picture from FCP euro and indeed, there is an extra metal strip that is missing from the switch that helps with the actuation. Darn, must have fallen inside somewhere, don't think i'll rip everything apart to find that. So far all the plastic bits are intact, along with the flimsy bit on the door that's used to push onto that metal strip.

Any clue how i can DIY this metal strip? I dont think its worth having to buy a whole new switch when everything is intact/works

Not a clue, sorry.
But as I said it is the same as the boot one. Pretty sure I have a spare somewhere. If you pm me an address I’ll get back to you with a postage cost to send you it

Cheers! i'll send a PM soon and see if its worth it haha. This never bothered me but since i discovered this hanging switch, thought i'd inquire about

Morning, here's the switch I have. I can look into the postage for you, but it may be worth just pricing up a new one?
Sometimes it's surprising how little they cost.

Just received the switch from @enuff_zed

carefully carried over the trigger bracket as the switch was already working and i didnt want to mess around with the storage door removal.
