Centre Console Door Rattle / Rattling

Hi,

The centre console door which folds down and contains the phone snap in adapter is rattling when it is closed. It is quite annoying.

When the door is closed and the latch engaged the door can be pressed in and out at the top and this is the source of the rattle - the door is rattling in and out against the centre console where the storage shelf and DVD navigation computer are.

The latch is in the top part of the centre console and a tongue comes down and holds the door shut. There does not seem to be any adjustment to the latch so that it could hold the door tighter.

There also does not seem to be any rubber feet or pads on the door to pad it out and stop the door rattling.

Has anyone any experience of this?

When the centre console door is shut, If you press the door does it move in and out against the centre console like mine?

Here is the diagram on realoem:

Out of interest, I have no idea what number 16 is. It says "cover left" and "cover right". Are these some sort of spacers which pad the door out which I do not have?

Is the spring loading still working on the door?

Hello,

Do you mean that the door hinges try and pull the door downwards and its action is "damped"? If so, yes this seems to be working normally.

Yes that's what I meant. If thats working I would expect it to be pulling against the catch when closed so that it didn't rattle.

It shows you a picture of 16 on the right hand side, must be part of the flap assembly. I would guess that your lock assembly is maybe loose and just needs tightening up.

Hi, it is pulling against the catch when closed but at low RPM, the vibration cause a rattling noise which goes away if the door is pressed inwards. I guess the noise is therefore the door rattling against the lock catch.

I will have to take it apart and have a look.

I've got a similar rattle, only just started.

Solved the glovebox one today, so only one more to go!

OK, I eventually got to the bottom of mine.

I took the centre storage assembly apart again and put it back together, nothing obvious wrong at all. I tried adjusting it a little forward and back on the torx screws but nothing really made a difference, the door was still a little loose and rattling about.

The centre door is connected to the centre tray assembly through two small plastic hinges which have two small retaining screws. You need to take these screws out and then have to "pull" the door towards the front of the car to remove it.

This action of pulling the door a couple of times to remove it in order to fit the intravee had somehow pulled the two hings brackets a by a mm.

I have put a little force onto the bottom of the door to push it and the hinge brackets back in again towards the rear of the car. Immediately, the slack 2mm at the top of the door where it can rattle forwards and backwards against the catch when closed has gone down to a fraction of a mm.

Interesting - mine has a similar rattle & was going to pop some adhesive foam at the top to stop it, but will now have a deeper look into the mechanism

Has your centre storage compartment door been removed at all? My one has bluetooth so has a phone holder built into it.

As I said, I had removed the door a couple of times to install my intravee and in the process of removing the door, the brackets where the door attaches at the bottom must have been bent or stretched a little. I pushed firmly a few times at the bottom of the door where the brackets are on the other side of the door.

The movement at the top of the door where the door rattles back and forth against the catch was much much reduced and the rattle / buzzing noise is now gone.

Not to my knowledge, I installed the intravee in the boot with a serial cable for updates. Cannot see why the owner after me (bought the car back from him :D ) would have needed to remove the door.

Will have a look at the weekend & see if there has been any movement.

Need to track down the annoying rattle over my shoulder too....cant manage to poke it when I am driving to establish where it is coming from as my arms do not have several elbows to articulate themselves

Mine seems to be both the door & the top 'bulge' of the console - the bit between the seats.

Solved the door currently with a rolled up micro fibre where the phone would sit to brace the door, but any thoughts on stopping the top bit rattling....not really up for dismantling it as will break something.

On a rough road it resonates like hell & is VERY annoying!!
