Centre brake light tightening

I've just fitted a new centre brake light.....as my last one cracked within a short time am I over tightening it....I read somewhere on here about that but can't find the 'how to'

Cut about two coils off the 3 springs, technically you can't over tighten it as the nut bottoms out on the unthreaded part of the studs... The original 82n spring strength is the issue, new replacement springs are 40n!

That's what I did but I didn't go too mad tightness on the nuts
Isn't that a double entendre? :?

Sid James was the master of these - if you asked him, he'd give you one.

BMW replaced the earlier lights under warranty. The new springs where suppose to be upgraded to prevent this problem.

Thats what I was also lead to believe, hence why when ordering a new light you also order new springs.

The technial service sheet posted in the thread is dated March 2006 and the new springs supercedes it, although I am prepared to be proved wrong

I think I'll order a set of these on Monday. ...if it saves cracking another lens....Thanks for all the info guys
