Centre brake light is breaking again!

I have this issue and am going to buy a replacement. Can someone tell me what the issue with the springs is? I have seen a place that sells modified springs along with the new light.

The original springs were too... Springy :D

If it comes with new ones they will be less rigid, just don't tighten them too much. I think the rubber round the lights works as a compression seal and doesn't need much pressure to do it's stuff.

Could the crack in the brake light be the cause of a puddle in my boot in the right hand sunken bit?

Hmmmm. Possibly, but I think that's a different issue that I have seen before but cannot remember details of. Have a wee search for 'boot', 'water' and 'wet' in the e85/86 problems section and see what comes up. If you get no joy, start a thread

I doubt it. The water would only collect inside the rear of the boot lid panel and I don't imagine enough could collect to then drip down and cause a puddle as described.

I've just been reminded that I never updated this thread with my results. I ended up using some silicone sealant around the lens (in addition to using the correct springs and the nuts done up very loosely). So far no cracking and no leaking either

My last replacement has started cracking horizontally in the top middle after 2.5 years - annoying! Where's the best place to find a genuine clear replacement.

Sopers Lincoln with Forum discount

You should know this :poke: :telloff: :P

Sorry to jump the thread guys but Mine is shot to. Where the hell in the uk can I purchase one of these from? I cant find one in england. Any suggestions cheers.

Welcome to the forum.

Any dealers for about £50. Sopers as posted above provide discount and good service to the forum.
The clear one's are actually cheaper than red and on most colours make a decent upgrade.

I thought they would be more expensive from a dealer I will try my local bmw garage snows. But the problem is my mot is due any day and I reckon they will take a week to get it as I live on the iow. Does anyone know if it will fail on it if its half lit?

Can't advise on the MOT, but AFAIK the only place to get one of these is a dealer. If they are being sold on eBay they will most likely be damaged, unless you can source a mint one from a breakers. Sopers Lincoln will give you a 10% forum discount and delivery is free
