Centre air vent removal - grrr

Got a new stereo to fit so need to remove the centre air vent.

Now I've pushed a couple of small screwdrivers into the tabs to pull them down and using some panel removal tools trying to pry the vent outwards. But it's not budging!

Both vents are in the closed position but still the damn thing doesn't want to move.

Anyone got any tips?

I've even broken a couple of the plastic pry tools which is annoying.

I've had this out years ago when I fitted my dension unit so I know it can be done. Maybe a bit of heat might help.
 
4 clips inside the vents then there is a locating pin at the back that will be a tight fit so you need to pull prize until it comes free the pin is not visible until it is out

Where are the 4 clips?
I see the 2 metal ones at the top, not sure of the other 2.
Ive only been prying at the top as per the TIS instructions.
 
2 at the top 2 at the bottom or bottom corner there is a you tube video if you search for it

From memory 2 are metal silver and 2 are black plastic
 
just the two clips at the top. Need to be levered at the same time though. Three hands would help :lol:
 
I've looked at YouTube videos and I seem to be doing everything as they say, just seems to be stuck fast.
Nowhere to get a good grip to pull though.
 
Levering the two clips with screwdrivers, I used a loop of electric wire to pull the vent out.

Did you loop the wire right round the back of the unit through the slats?
I doubt the slats would take any stress on them.
 
Mine was a bugger the first time, trying to find those metal tabs.

I probably had it out another 5 times for various reasons after that, and each time it would pop out straight away with gentle coaxing on the top edge with a plastic pry tool, completely ignoring the internal metal tabs.

I used the wire to pull from the slats. I`ve also seen some use a credit card or similar to lever the vents out.
