central locking - won't open

Evening all

Got an intermitent fault with the central locking, every so often it won;t open, be it with the key or lock. If you hit the lock key it works ok, but if you press open it doesn't work. The interior light comes on, which suggests its recieving the command but not getting through to open doors. If you then hit lock you hear a movement. There is no logic to when it happens and sometimes it will start working again after a few tries, but last time it was longer... 2 Questions !!!

Firstly, anyone else had this, know the probnlem, thinking it may be a short?

Secondly, and kinda important now, as the central locking isn't working, the fuel filler remain locked, so while i can manually open the driver door only with the key, i can't put fuel in.... a particular problem as i have less than 60 miles in the tank, how can i open this manually????

Any help much appreciated !

Andy

Can't help with the first question Entwistlea - sorry.

However, for the second:
Inside the boot, on the wall lining that has the fuel filler, you should see a small 3/4 inch sized plastic button.
This is the emergency release for the fuel cover. Give this a firm tug and you'll find the fuel filler is now openable :D

Is your locking problem related to frosty mornings?

My X5 which has a not disimilar system sometimes goes haywire in heavy frost and doors will not unlock or lock. Done it this morning resulting in leaving the car in the sun to warm up.

cheers, have seen the release for the roof, i'll go looking for the other one !

Sadly, its happened in sun, rain and frost, so i can;t even narrow it down that way, my first thought was it was heat related as it happened when it was warm, but since then its happened all times :(
