Central locking not releasing door lock

Hi there,

I have a problem with my 2003 roadsteer, whereby when I remotey unlock the car with the fob, the door lock buttons are not popping up. Sometimes it is the drivers door and sometimes the passenger door, there seems to some movement to suggest that power is being applied, but they do not pop up/release.

Has anybody experienced this, does anybody how to resolve the problem please?

Thanks

Phil

This could be caused by a relay in the General Module going bad, a somewhat common problem on all BMWs that use this module. If you search this forum a bit, there's a link to a repair service that also has more information on the issue. If you're handy at soldering and desoldering, this can be a DIY repair.

Been having the same trouble myself. This may help shed some light on it.

I have the same problem with the drivers door, also the intermittent wiper facility doesn't work, could these 2 faults be connected to the GM5 unit?

Wiper functions are managed by the GM V module, so there could be a connection. But then, the module is just one of several things that may have gone wrong, so the problems can persist despite a module repair. If your locking problem is limited to the driver's door, while it could be the module, I think it's more likely an actuator, wiring, or linkage problem in the door itself. YMMV.

Thanks. It seems it could be anything then...

I stumbled upon the GM V repair link I mentioned previously.

While it takes some work, poking around with a multimeter and 12v supply can eliminate many possibilities. You could even test the relay, but if it's an intermittent problem, it will of course work perfectly when you test it. :headbang:
