Bit of a saga but I'll try and be brief.
When I bought car seller said central locking was a bit intermittant. I still bought it and it never worked at all for me. Seller drove it quite rarely (weekend car) so I thought possibly key fob battery needs a bit of time in ignition. Still never worked.
I took key apart with view to replacing re-chargeable battery. Still didn't work (at this point did not know about pairing key to car) Tested old battery which was showing 3v so assumed it was ok and put it back in. Note - I never soldered the connections to the battery. Originally it was welded but assumed a good tight contact would suffice.
Recently removed GM5 module and sent away for repair. They confirmed it was faulty so got it back and installed it hoping all good. Not to be. Tried every combination of pairing - even took it to local indie who tried it. No joy.
So next step send key away (I only have one) and get it properly repaired. Then I realised that receiver for central locking is in the rear view mirror. One of the first things I replaced was the original aut-dimming mirror (the mirror glass was all clouded) and I replaced it with a used manual dipping mirror from a 1 series. I just unplugged old one and plugged replacement in to place and fitted.
So, I'll likely seend key away for repair to eliminate this as cause but could it be the fact I replaced mirror and receiver that is causing issues? And if so, is there a cheapish remedy?
Thanks for reading.
