Central Locking and Passenger Window

Dear All,

I took possession of my RHD 2003 Z4 today. Bought it used and it has done 21.6k km. I notice few minor issues;

1. central locking not working automatically as the car starts to move, I have to press the switch to lock the doors. This is unlike my E46. Is this normal for Z4?

2. Passenger door window will not roll up on one touch unlike the driver's side. Meanwhile, roll down works on one touch...I'm so confused :headbang:

I think both of those need to be programmed... Mine never used to do the drive away locking, dealer programmed it :) Pretty sure the passenger window is the same...

I don't think there is a one touch up option for the passenger window. As gannet said, the drive away locking can be programmed.

The manual for my 03 says just that. The driver's window is one touch both up and down while the passenger's window is only one touch down (never could work out why). The door locking on driving away is a function programmed by the dealer (key I think not car - it was on my 3 series).

The passenger window is only one touch going down, when I aked my BMW dealer why, he said "its a safety feature, as it a soft top, as it can not be relied on to stop and retract if a kiddy for example, get his head in the way, as with a solid roof car" oh" say;s I "then why does the drivers one do it then? as the only time that is liable to happen is when I am not in the car" to which his reply was :tumbleweed:

On touch window up on passenger side also works on my car (2005). Needs to be programmes and here is how!!!! (For once dont need to take the car to BMW for some stupid coding!!!! )

Press the button for passenger side window down,

Press and hold the button for window up (obviously at this stage you will need to hold, but not for long!!)

After it closes hold the button up for further 5 seconds

Walaaaaaa, try for one touch window up now!!

Tried it on my 03 but doesn't work (either with engine running or just ignition on) :x

:( sorry guys that it doesnt work

Everytime I disconnect my battery, the one touch window up button doesnt work unless I do the above procedure. two thoghts:

1) My car is 2005, did BMW change the function of the buttons?

2) When pressing the the button, release the button when window closes and hold up again for 5 seconds. If doesnt work, must be point number 1

Good to know the one-touch-up doesn't work on 03. IMZ4N and I try the programming trick, but couldn't get it to work...
That's kinda wierd because the switch feels as if there's a one-touch-up function (there's a slight "click" if you pull it all the way). I though it was broken, but I guess not...

My 2005 does one touch up and down for both windows. It's great 'cause I just flick both up when getting on the highway and then flick them both down when I exit onto regular roads.

I'm almost positive that this was a programmable feature at the stealer's though.

GUYS, GUYS, GUYS!!!!!!

One-Touch-Up for passenger side was not added until late, late 2004 build. (Please do not ask me why, I argued with the dealer on this for hours :headbang: )

And the remote top-down function was not added until mid 2005 build (I think I remember this one correctly -- someone please correct me if I am wrong).

The drive-off-locking is/and always has been programmable.

There must be some way as UK cars are right hand drive and the rest of Europe and USA left hand, so the passenger windows are obviously on different sides. I can't see BMW having totally different wiring for this minor feature.

You could argue this for the rest of the world also if you think about it. BMW probably just swap the loom over for doors, if you think about it it wouldnt be hard.

Bottom line is dont think you will be able to fix.

The independent who programmed my remote roof also programmed the one-touch passenger window on my early 2004 build :D
