Managed to 'discover' the central air vent tab is partially borken on the car. I am aware there is a company who sells these tabs in the UK or US for less than 20, but I have to pay for shipping to 'Straya and can't justify it.
Take out the vent as described on the forum, offending droopy tab

Open the vent and check the back, turn the vents in position for good access for surgery

Obtain suitable material to attach to back of tab. In my case, I found excess plastic clips supplied with business shirts. Cut to size. This part will sit on the flat area of the tab section.

Apply masking tape to the front of the tab in position.

Attach doublesided tape to the part, then using tweezers, carefully add the part to area. Press down firmly and let adhesive, adhere.

Check your handwork

Grab a refreshment to hydrate.
Install vent back into car. 8)
