Center Storage Compartment

Hi, my centre storage compartment is jammed / locked for some strange reason... i'm not sure why, it was fine a few months ago.

I have been told that there is a release button/leaver in the boot to open it... i can't seem to find the button/leaver and i don't really want to start pulling at things in case i mess something up...

Any info on getting this compartment open would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

I had this problem and no amount of pulling of the emergency release cord in the boot would open it!!

It turned out to be the central locking motor for the compartment jammed in the locked postion. I took it apart a couple of times and worked on the motor, but within days is was always locked shut again. So now I've taken it out completely and at some point this summer will purchase a new one.

BTW, you can pop the door of the compartment open using a flat head screwdriver and a bit of care (which you'll need to do to take it apart)

My car also has no release cable in the boot. When the car is locked, the central storage compartment is also locked.

I didn't think the central compartment locked with the central locking, I'll have to try it out by locking the car with me in it then seeing if it will open

It only does on the convertibles, iirc

I tried it. Tthe central storage compartment is locked together with central locking. It can't be opened.

Are you sure it's locked and not just jammed? Sometimes I get stuff that falls in the seam/hinge part and it will only up a little because something is stuck in there.

My US 2003 had to have the connector to the storage locker modified by cutting a pin in the connector so it would lock when the car doors were locked. Seems stupid that they would build a convertible that would allow access to a compartment that would someone could just reach in and clean it out if you parked it with the top down. Of course the dealer charged for the modification. If BMW fixed this "Duh" problem on the assembly line in later years production, then you might have an electrical problem that the cable release in the trunk will not remedy. If not, then you might have a simple mechanical problem with the latch that might relate to something jamming the backside of the Assembly. What did you store in there?

Believe it or not, i don't think i had anything in there other than a pen. I only had the car a month or two before it locked up, thanks again for your help

My center storage compartment latch won't work and storage door was stuck closed. To open it just take a straight slot screwdriver and gently push it straight back between top of door and center of latch. It should open up very easily, I assume I need new latch but that is kind of pricey so I guess screwdriver will work for now!

Hi
I have one or two here for sale at £15+ postage, about £3-4. I have also found out the hard way that this lock can loose it's operation due to a programming fault that was cleared when I had another fault cleared.
The lock only works when either the central locking is used via remote or key in the door, it doesn't seem to work with the internal C/L button.
