Center console locking?

Hi,
My 2000 Audi TT 8n roadster had the center console storage locking.
It was very useful, especially when leaving the car with the roof open.

I know that my Z4 was poorly specced, so maybe there was an option for that? Was it?

You know it only locks when you lock the car? There is no manual key option.
I thought they all had it as standard.
But if anyone has ever taken that rear console panel out then there's a good chance they didn't reconnect the plug.

Locking using remote or pressing the button near the hazard lights?
Either way mine doesn't work apparently 🫠

There was one, small plug roughly under this small weird storage. I thought it was for the light (that I don't have).

Or maybe there is somewhere a different plug that I missed?

The small plug should go to a microswitch to operate the light. The light is in the very top of the compartment (if you have one).
The plug for the lock is behind the top drivers side edge of the panel, about level with the top of the door. You can only get at it when the panel is removed.
If you have the lock then there is a manual override in case it fails closed. A piece of string connects to the locking assembly. The other end of it is attached to a circular black button in the middle of the boot bulkhead. If you don't have that override then perhaps you don't have a lock either?

Oh I have the piece of string in the trunk!
But it's connected to nothing and I didn't feel like debugging it 🙃

That sounds like the centre console has been out and put back together without connecting anything then.

Welp. Now I know. This means that if there is a string, there should be a lock for the center storage?

I 'think' so yes. If it didn't lock, why would you need the string.

String in the boot is part of the manual release to operate the roof manually- it disconnects the motor

That's actually the red loop at the upper part of the boot.
It presses a metal button on the pump.

I was also fixing that some time ago 🙃
