center console light

Recently I noticed that my center console light stays on at all times, even with the console door completely closed, unless I lock the car via remote. It's on when I'm driving, it's on when the car is turned off but the alarm is not armed. I took everything out of the storage area but I can't seem to find a switch that might be stuck. Any suggestions?

Switch is at the bottom in the centre, a lever on the door activates the switch. IIRC there have been posts about this before.

is this the light in the cubby hole/storage area behind(next to) the seats? If so, mine stays on while driving too. I can see the light around the edges when its closed.

If this isn't what you guys are talking about, please ignore me

The drop down cover to the storage bin should have a small extension on the bottom edge that operates a micro-switch to turn the light off.
This part of the flap often gets broken off the moulding & therefore the light stays on.

There is a thread on here somewhere withuseful photos. I can't find it at the moment, but I'll put up a link later if I find it.

I believe thet some owners have drilled a hole in the cover and screwed in a small diameter bolt to operate the switch.

Hope that helps

Ian.

Yep- switch is like a fridge door! I have screwed a self tapper in as I kept breaking switch

All,

I confirmed that the small sliver of plastic at the base of the center console door has broken off.
I'd be very interested to see some pictures of the fix y'all have mentioned. A search for center console light produced 2 hits; neither was helpful.

I guess the z4 had to have at least ONE flaw... :)

Thanks,
