Hi, when i bought my car a few weeks ago, i did notice that the center console area around the gear stick was raised... when i push it down it goes back down flush with the rest of the center console however, it just pops back up about 5mm when i let go of it again, as seen in the image below...

Has this ever happened to anyone before, i have tried to pull the whole center piece out around the gear stick but i think it will snap if i pull it any harder

Hasn't happened to me, but that whole part just pops out. I had to take mine out to get at the hazard warning switch. I wonder if one of the clips is broken.

Yeah i reckon one of the clips must be broken... not sure if i can do anything other than try and order a new center console part...

How did you remove yours...

I'm guessing the foam underneath isn't sitting in the correct position causing this to happen.

How much force does it take to pull the center console out... i am afraid of snapping something when pulling at it

You can remove the bit round the gear lever with the switch in and slide the rectangular bit out under the handbrake, but the rest is screwed in from underneath.

no, don't push the area that is marked in red. The actual leather boot for your gear-shift has clips on the edges. Push the leather part towards the middle to unclip it. The leather will then be able to lift up.
