Celtic tuning remap?

Anyone used it?
Any regrets?
Much effect on fuel consumption?
Any benefit in using a dealer rather than the mobile service?

I have a 2012 20i M Sport and got the stage 3 Celtic remap about 2 years ago and would recommend it to everyone with the N20 engine. It absolutely revolutionised the car. It's much quicker and more responsive. Feels much more like the car it should be (not that it was slow before, but opting for the more fuel-efficient engine had is drawbacks).

I have noticed that fuel consumption is increased, but that might be down to how I'm driving it now vs before the map. It's not a dramatic increase in consumption though, so I'm not concerned.

I had it done by a one of their mobile engineers. Showed up in a van at my house, took about an hour to do the remap, and then he came with me on a drive to test it out and make sure it didn't bork the engine. The remap even seems to have changed the exhaust note slightly to give it a bit more heft and the burbles are much more noticeable now than they were before, which is a nice bonus.

Mine wasn't Celtic, but similar. I got it done at a rolling road where the chap then tweaked it to match the car (as they all have slight differences).
The most noticeable improvement was the torque. Pulls like a train now.
I got before and after print outs from the rolling road so I can see exactly what the changes are..
There have been others who just had it done on their drive who have subsequently found the curve to be somewhat erratic when checked on a rolling road.
I too have noticed a few more burbles from the exhaust.
In overall driving conditions, varying from motorway cruising to back road blasts I have found my fuel consumption has actually improved, by around 1.5mpg. I am putting this down to the extra torque reducing the need for quite so many gear changes. Mine being a manual. Not sure how it would affect an auto?

Celtic do a great job, their establishment in cornwall is top spec with two dynos, the whole thing covered by CCTV so you can see everything thats going on, soundproofed as well so you dont cak your rompers lol.
Best thing is if your not happy they dont charge you and they dont remove the map if your not happy unless you tell them too......
Benefit of a rolling road is that they can tweak it to your individual vehicle as opposed to a generic (its about this much) map. I have had an A4 - C63 - and my 35i mapped by them, never any problems.
Locally they have a bit of a reputation for agressive mapping, you will certainly feel the difference.

I had a bad experience with a dealer installed Celtic tune..nobody ever ‘fessed up to who / what went wrong.

Personally I’d choose a tuner who offers a rolling road and get a before and after run..in that way you know..

a) your car was nice n healthy before the tune
b) you can see the relative impact of the tune

You’ll only do it once (unless your name is B21..I’ve done 5 times)

Hi B21
Sorry to hear about your experience with Celtic 😱
I had a Celtic remap also on my 35 e89 and love it . It wasn’t a rolling road map but a mobile Celtic tec. I’m saying I’m happy with it personally. But it does make things a bit of an issue if people like B21 have had un resolved problems with these guys. As said above, definitely makes the car more like the animal it’s meant to be . And with the eisenmann exhaust it’s just massive grin factor

Yup had Celtic dealer do my Volvo XC70 and it seemed fine..the Celtic tune on my N20 had a massive , absolutely massive hole in the torque curve.

Obviously many happy customers but nobody ever addressed my complaint or offered any redemption.

As I say for the sake of a few pounds extra the peace of mind seeing the before and after is what I now do.

Reality is a combination of placebo and human perception means it’s very difficult to see if any changes are making an impact after the first tweak.

Some people use a data speed / acceleration monitor like Dragy arguing that that shows the real world impact of any changes.

Problem on the N20 is your options are more limited than on the N54 powered cars or now the G29s.

So data logging is harder to do..if you are interested..

Anyway glad you are happy

What is Celtic Stage 3 if I may ask. Thank you

No point in trying with the M but I had Celtic do a Defender 2.4 puma last year. Awesome set up down there with rolling road printouts before and after. £250 got me +20% power and +17% torque. Now pulls like it should and is slightly more economical when your brain slips out of race mode. Ace cars in the car park and there's a Premier Inn next door with a good breakfast.
