Hi Guys, has anybody changed to a modified CDV. I've read it makes changing from 1st to 2nd smooth and also gives longevity to the clutch. I went through an american website who charge something like 35usd. Its apparently a DIY job. any advice. cheers

Not really modified - bored out yes. many folks just take it out all together.

BTW - Huge difference in an M - not so bad in others.

chetalien, if you change it id like to try it, but I've just got used to mine and rarely drive it jerkily any more.

I have to correct you in that Zeckhausen say they modify, by removing the restrictor, much like I did.

Is there anyway u can buy it in UK or anyone who does it. The shippign costs and other charges came upto more than the Product itself with Zeckhausen. Thanks for ur help.

Whatever - remove, bore - it's still the same part. It makes a HUGE difference for anyone thinking about it - I did it in both BMW's.

I took mine out and enlarged the hole in the CDV with a driver at first, but then just left in my tool box and didn't bother reinstalling after I had a good look at it. The CDV is only 75mm long (ish) anyway.
It's worth while removing the CDV imo, gives you back full control of the clutch, it's just easier to drive smoother without it.

Buy a modded one(waste of money imo), bore out the OE with a driver or remove completely. the choice is yours :)

I did it with a Zeckhausen CDV and Racing Blue fluid. Made a big difference to the drivability of the car in heavy traffic. Although i think most people here are fully capable of learning their car it does makes things easier and is especially useful if anyone else drives the car from time to time (wife!). If you are mechanically minded and have the ability to raise the car enough then Toplad's solution is the easiest but for me, i'm just lazy and figured that it's a low cost part anyway so got it done by a mechanic.

If anyone hasn't yet done this mod, DO IT, it's worth it. Probably more than any other mod.

Do I need to bore out the OE CDV? Can't I just remove the CDV and tie the line together?

you can and others have, may add some tension to the lines though.

Thats good to know. Will removing the CDV will allow me to shift from 1st to 2nd in low rpm without/less jerking? I feel that I have to give 1st a lot of gas to smooth out my shift to 2nd.

It will give you back full control, but if you let the revs drop to much as you swap from 1 st to 2nd it'll still feel jerky, but it'sasier to be smoother without the CDV or a Modded one. I knew within 3 gear changes I'd done the right thing

Good luck

I could tell as soon as I went to back the car out of the garage after removing the CDV, the biting point of the clutch just feels so much better. Anyone who hasn't done this yet just get it done.
