Cdv removed

I had an intermediate oil service and brake fluid change carried out on my Z4MC this weekend and whilst it was there I had the cdv removed.

I'd read quite a few differing opinions on the merits of removing the cdv but I've gotta say, the difference is huge. 1st to 2nd is now like 3rd to 4th with none of the occasional, weird snatching feeling. Combined with the ZHP the gear change is now very nice indeed!

Anyone considering this, for less than £100 (ZHP and cdv delete) can transform the quality of your gear change. A no brainer imo. :driving:

Honestly I could only feel a little more crisp/mechanical feel in the pedal but thats it..

Yup, same here.

Good that it worked for you though Muckinonthesofa

good job.

I had mine done at its last service and certainly feels a bit smoother and when driving hard it definitely bites harder, but my rear tyres don't like it too much

I prefer my gear change and clutch operation following cdv delete. My MX5 gearchange was still nicer though.

I had a test drive in a mk1 MX5 years ago and remember the gear change being brilliant. My Fd3 RX7 was very nice as well. Maybe Japanese manufacturers know how to make a good manual gearbox!

If you have the chance, try also S2000 gears. IMO they are one of the best gearboxes.

Oh yes, S2000 has always been known for it's awesome gear change. Contemporary road tests always raved about it

the bestgox I've had the pleasure to use is the mk1 mk5 literally just PERFECT..... just so so so right. The z4m gearbox is really nice but not to that level, i think the stock tall gear knob doesnt help, i really must change it actually.

Funny that we both went from an RX7 to a silver grey MC.
What colour was your FD?

made no difference as far as I can recall. As it was in the air at the time and took all of 5 mins to do I wasn't charged for it, so I don't feel so bad :)

Yeah, I assumed by FD3S's user name he'd had a FD3 RX7! Mine was a red UK spec model with the original twins. It was a very very rare car, being UK supplied. I loved it, had it 12 years, always felt rapid, a great chassis and stunning looks. Appreciated in value as well
