Been looking at threads about this, but can't really decide as some people recommend removing and other's modifying, so thought I should just do a poll. :)

i did mine last week and what a difference! do it, its so easy to do and doesnt take long. if you dont like it just put it back on!

just be safe jacking the car in this weather

It took me a while to figure out that CDv means Clutch Delay Valve. What exactly does it do ?

there are a few threads, it is meant to make your gear change smoother but seems to have the opposite effect.

once i removed mine the clutch feels a little lighter and the change from 1st to 2nd is much much better. i read somewhere that it can actually shorten the life of teh clutch.

from your link: During normal, sedate driving, the shift from first into second gear is often jerky, leading passengers to question your skill. As the driver, you can see your passengers' heads bobbing back and forth during every shift! Yes, in their minds, they are laughing at you.

Now I know why I felt like a rank friggin amateur in my M3. Bas*ards! I used to have to concentrate so hard on those first shifts I felt like an L plate. :headbang:

hey peddy, while i was doing mine i found this guide. http://www.zeckhausen.com/CDV.htm

i think the one in the 'main' thread about this no longer exists

You need a "leave it" vote. I don't have a problem with it. Either run the revs up a bit or slip the clutch at lower revs. Took me a few days to adjust to the Z after the 325, but all's well now.

Yes, but it doesn't really help off the line. Anyways, I've decided to do something with it hence why I left out a "leave it" option.

So if a guy with a 9mm pointed a gun at your head and said "i'm gonna put a cap in your ass unless you modify or delete your CDV", which would you chose?

I think my .40 S&W Sig trumps the 9mm.

Hmmm.. well I did about 38k in mine and never had a problem.. no real jerky kangaroo changes, but I went to see Peter in Telford (for the roof up mod) so thought might as well get it done.

Basically he took the CDV off, & in 5mins he'd modded it (with a hammer) and put it back on.

So.. it's kinda a pointless post, coz if you're going down this route already, it seems pretty easy to mod it, rather than replace.

BTW - I know I'm used to my car, but it was almost harder to get used to it again after - stil no dodgy changes but it's almost like a new clutch.

My understanding of modding it was that it'll still have some effect i.e. there will still be some delay (but much less) in the clutch releasing. Am I wrong?

Why dont you try both? I mean, your going to modify it anyways right? So modify it, put it back on, then remove it, and if you like the feel of the modified one opposed to the no cdv at all then just re install

Im personally going to remove the damn thing this weekend... problem solved ;)
