I agree with this too. Since moving from runflats to decent tyres, despite lowering the back end a little the ride is so much more comfortable now! It feels like I've actually got some suspension.

The outer layer of the roof ISN'T meant to be waterproof. Treating it and making it so causes it to stiffen and not fold properly.

Never heard that before. I use Autoglym on mine and the water beads off nicely and gives no problems folding, as I am sure is the case with many others. Much rather have mine protected than it being soaking wet all winter.

Mike is right, the outer layer should be porous - water should actually permeate (and soak it) and rely on the inner layer of Butyl to be the waterproof layer.

Is it legal to drive without wing mirrors? Even so, from a safety aspect probably not worth it. When I get them back it's next on my to do list. Nearly a month now without wing mirrors!
 
Of course it's illegal, although strictly speaking you only have to have the offside if you have a rear view mirror but you're a muppet for driving around so long without them.

It's on the drive where it's been for almost a month... hence why I made the point about it being unsafe... and hence why I said when I get my mirrors back it's the next job... because then I will be able to drive it.

Is there something in the water today ??

With the valve removed - engagement is instant! It's like driving a differnt car! So smooth and refined especially on the e46 as it used to take loads of revs to set off now it just sets off by letting the clutch out.

Anyway just thought I'd share and get in touch with Mike (Ducklakeview) who can take care of this for you in around 10 minutes and for a few beer tokens!

Holy s**t how did you get through 10 years of driving BMW manuals, especially all the cars you have owned and not get around to doing this!🤣
You must be kicking yourself!
Unfortunately now BMW has incorporated the clutch delay device into the clutch master cylinder on most F series manuals making it virtually impossible to do this now. SPOIL SPORTS!

Haven't done it. Doesn't feel like it needs it - in fact, punching the clutch in and out fast is probably the best way of getting a smooth 1st to 2nd shift.

Didn't feel like that was an option in my last zed. You had to learn to drive around the fact that there was a bit of a delay in clutch engagement.
 
Yep, top lad that DLV.

Clutch delay valve was the first thing i removed after reading so many posts about it, would 100% recommend this to anyone who hasn't already removed theirs.

I currently have a Sprint Booster installed and set about mid way in race mode to negate laggy standing start. I don't race, it just helps it to set off like a normal car by adjusting the throttle response rather than clutch. Presumably without the CDV it would have the same effect but with much better fuel economy, and the Sprint Booster would just be a kind of 'sport' mode.
 
I mean by not having to use such an aggressive throttle response as I am at present when moving from a standing start. Or not having to use the Sprint Booster at all.
 
Basically I think I'm trying to say that because I already have a solution of sorts, I might not notice that much of a difference by removing the CDV, but it should be more fuel friendly and therefore wallet friendly! :wink:

Removing the CDV will have no effect on fuel. What it will stop is clutch slipping which is what the CDV induces.

Again yes I understand, the effect on fuel would come from not using the Speed Booster as a means to negate the lag from a standing start that the CDV causes. With the Speed Booster set as high as it is at present it is bound to use up more fuel, for example; in an extreme case I could easily set off in second with it as s quickly as I could in first by adjusting the throttle resistance. Remove the cause of the lag and you remove the need for the Speed Booster.
 
Was under the car the weekend, am I right in thinking my CDV has already been deleted?
