Cdv delete - is it worth it?

Sure this has been answered before but done a quick search and not found anything. Apologies if I'm covering old ground!

Can someone explain to me what the cdv delete actually means and what the benefits are? I know it's a clutch delay valve but that's about it...

Seen a lot of folk have had it done and wondering if I should consider it too - anything to improve my pride and joy further!

It greatly depends on your ability to change gear properly - if you struggle, keep it, it's there for reason!

Essentially it is there to reduce shock to the drivetrain when you changing gear with force at high revs. It engages the clutch more slowly which reduces shock but wears the clutch out more quickly as its a consumable part. I debated removing mine in the early days but you soon learn how to drive the car properly with it. Like said above- it's there for a reason.

No. Learn to change gear properly and blip the throttle on changes. Its not hard.

I've had it done and would recommend it. Paddy Wright's post (2 above) sums up what it does. Having had it done I find the gear changes between 1st and 2nd smoother and therefore the pick up and acceleration is faster when you want to push it. I had it done free of charge at the same time as my remap - it's now pretty damn quick off the line

Once you get used to the gear changes, it's just like any other car. I didn't bother and the car drives great. I'm speaking from a road use daily driver angle.

I got it done on a 2.0L and to be fair I didn't notice much of a change. I think on a 3.0L you will feel it.

It is a very basic and easy mod so go for it, if you don't like it then you can always put it back on.

If you drive your car with respect and consideration with regard to its mechanical you won't have any issues. I have never heard of anybody having issues after removing either.

Its there to reduce stalling for those who dont know how to shift properly.
Downside: you dont have full control over the clutch which makes it impossible to drive the car hard. Without the cdv you can apply power more quickly you can shift more quickly.

Couldn't agree more, and I did try to drive around it. Having had it removed as part of a fluids change, it's made a massive amount of difference to fast and slow driving.

getting to handle it. Don't bother trying control just drop the clutch seems to be the way. What was BMW's thinking on a car like this? Raw in all other aspects so why try to sofen the experience. Its a sports car.

You can drive round it. But if you remove it you'll notice the difference and be very glad you did it. For 20 I s work it's one of the easiest mods to make the car just that little bit better to drive.
