CD Storage

I've just tried to store a CD in the car and it does not find Album name or Track Titles.

Its a pukka CD not a rip off (Mumford & Sons - Bable) Ive put it onto my iTunes and it sees the info and Ive also ripped it to mp3 for the usb stick and again all the info is showing..

The car was in the garage - is it like the sat nav and has to see the sky? :?

If the CD is new it won't be in the database, although I'm not 100% on how it all works. On a PC or Mac is different because the database can update itself on the internet.

Talking of the idrive controller, I'm going to try send BMW Germany some feedback/suggestion as to improve the drive controller.
It should have rollover touch sensitivity like the hu shortcuts.
So that instead of glancing down to remember which is cd and which is radio / phone / nav (which even after 7 months ownership I still get wrong!) it would pop up on the display as you rest your fingers on the buttons.

 great idea- gesture control, would love that.

David- are you aware about setting up favourites buttons?

NOTE: for anyone that wants it -I have the internal BMW technician version of the CIC system pdf, which is a 70 page document on the E90 (same as E89 I think) Car information computer including items like unlocking the service menu option on the iDrive control, gracenote, etc. I was interested once I read"This menu can be used to select and adjust settings that are not visible for the customer." it also explains how to go about:

Resetting the CIC
Unlocking the ServiceMenu Option
Setting favourites buttons
As well as a full breakdown of system components, processors & modules used etc. Great for us geeky nerds huh! (did you know about the YAW sensor?)

FYI - The following CIC applications are stored on the integrated hard disk drive:
• Music collection
• Music track database (Gracenote®)
• Navigation software (application)
• Navigation (map material)
• iSpeech (voice recognition system)
• Contacts (database with address data)
• System operating software

There has to be CD text on the disc. I'm not sure if all CD's have it or not now. Can't remember the last time I bought a physical Disc.

I would say you're right. You can use the USB in the glovebox to upload onto the nav hard drive anyway.

Yes!

Mp3 onto USB - Load from glovebox socket onto HD!

I think the little Gracenote Symbol (Radio Telescope) foxed me into thinking the database was an over the air job.

I do all mine this way. Use MS Mediaplayer to rip the CD to MP3, it will use the internet to get the right data and encode it properly. I then us a little programme called "Tag & Rename" to edit the files to clean them where necessary and add album art to every track.

Throw it on a USB and upload it.

The DB on the system is hard coded. What annoys me is that on other devices you can download an updated DB from the net and replace the original. Can't be beyond the wit of BMW to have added that tiny bit of functionality :x
