Cd changer wiring

Hi there!

Long time reader, first time poster. I have a silver gray 2006 roadster with automatic gearing, HIFI soundsystem and prof. navi. :driving:

Last couple of days I've been looking into my options when it comes to getting digital music into my car. Being an engineer and gadget freak, the Aux In option is out of the question. I've looked into a lot of different options, the DICE, Intravee etc. I've even ordered a used car2pc interface and an ibus to serial interface to experiment with.

Common for all these as I understand it is that they are connected to the cd changer wiring in the boot. Yesterday I tried to locate these two cables (One three- and one six-wire connector), but they are nowhere to be found. I have tried looking from them in the boot through the rectangular hole that leads into the storage space and the navi computer between the seats, and I have tried removing the speaker grilles behind the seats.

I have not yet removed the entire trim piece with the hinged door between the seats, mostly due to problems with removing said door. I've been looking at the instructions for installing a CD Changer, but that says "Pull gently out" and that just does not do it. A friend of mine who was trying to help even managed braking of the little plastic arm that toggles the light switch to the storage space. :(

Is it possible that my car just isn't prewired for cd changer, or have I just not searched good enough? Could it be taped in somewhere I can't reach without dismantling the entire space between the seats? Or is there a third option where I need another wire of some sort, e.g. to plug into the navi computer?

I'll appreciate any input! When I have my pictures from yesterday uploaded to Flickr I will edit this post and include them.

Regards, Magnus

Welcome :driving:

My guess is that they will be there, my history with BMW's and changing bits and pieces is that there has always been the wiring some where. Keep looking and I'll bet you will find them :D

Thanks!

I found this post just now: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8407#p128348

Will try again. :)

i tried to put in electric seats and there was no wiring so couldn't meaning this might not always be the case :(

There is wiring for the CD changer, but not for electric chairs.

Sounds like you missed a few screws somewhere. The centre console door is easy to remove, as long as you removed the two litte screws in the hinge!

Oh, and in addition - in my 2007 M, the wires were taped down below the console and they were short !!! No way you could get to those from the boot.

Managed to take the door off, but I broke off a small hook on one side. :( The part that the screw keeps open. I had a real hard time removing the rest of the console as well. My guess is that it is that the plastic has become hard and brittle due to the cold. At least I got it off without breaking more.

What really annoys me is that I still can't find the wires. :headbang: I'll try again tomorrow.

Cold is indeed not good for the plastic at all. I would heat up the parts with a hair dryer first to be honest.

Remember that the wires are taped down.

I have a 06 too and the wiring for mine was taped down in the boot under the carpet near where the cd changer would go. I actually purchased a phatbox which was why i was looking for it, unfortunately because the wiring is of the most type i could not get this to work so be careful of what you buy as the wiring is fibre optic and not too many things are compatiable with it. Would actually be interested if anyone has an intravee wired up in an 06 car.

Intravee works on a 06 car without problems. 06 - 08 are all the same cables so will all work

Still no luck. :headbang:

I'm at a point now where I consider pulling out the head unit to see if I can find the cd changer connection there. Only thing holding me back is that I'm terrified of scratching or denting the aluminum trim piece in the process.

I have taken some pictures of the cables going through the rectangular hole from the trunk to the compartment between the seats. I believe they are all to the nav dvd.

Update:

I think I may have to try and get hold of one of these cables: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT11&mospid=47795&btnr=65_1261&hg=65&fg=95

Unsure of how I'll be able to get one without the cd changer, though.

Edit:

Am I correct to assume that since the mini aux in cable fits our Z4, the cd changer cable will also be the same?
