How easy is it to removal the 6 disc changer? my old car has one, but most of the ones i'm lookin at don't... i'm thinking of a crafty move and taking it out before the insurance company take the keys off me (the cars at the BMW bodyshop at the mo) would i be able to fit this in another car? are the cables etc already there?

It's easy but takes ages. One of those jobs that will take you 2 to 3 hours first time but the second time you'd do it in an hour. I know I've done it when mine went tits up.

You pretty much have to dismantle the rear half of the console up to the hood and much of the trim behind the seats.

Actually when you get to it it's just 2 bolts and 2 cable connectors. :)

Rethreading the nylon release cable is the biggest PITA remembering exactly where it was all routed.

IMHO I'd spend £70 to £80 on ebay and buy a second hand one

As above, but would rather buy the Intravee kit for the iPod (assuming you have satnav) as that is the best solution.

As CJ10 said, it is not difficult to take out, just fiddly and assuming that your car is at a repair shop, it might not be that convenient to mess about for an hour +
