CCV System

Driving along tonight and my car started making a smoke screen fit to hide a battleship (it soon cleared up). So i think its time to replace the CCV system. I see there are "cold climate" ones available so is the UK a BMW cold climate zone? If not can i fit the cold climate CCV system? Not looked under the bonnet as its dark now but it seems the only difference is they have insulated pipes - is that worth having?

I would say don't bother with the cold climate one tbh. Unless the price is no different and you want to be prepared for the imminent ice age.

when it comes to climates for cars I think of terms like cold climate applying to northern canada or some of the scandinavian countries. I think were pretty mild here.

The OP has the username of a penguin. You'd think he'd get that.

Cheers, yes that's what I would have assumed but as they are built in California then they might consider the UK to be cold :-) £42 for the whole set (insulated).

Profile pic was taken when I was in the Falklands by the way :-)

I think I'll go for that version - I've had issues with mayo in the winter ever since I've owned the car - i do tend to do mostly short journeys I'm afraid.

I tackled this job today as it was warm and not raining. I watched a series of YouTube videos that showed how it was possible to do it and not take the inlet manifold off. One thing I learnt was do not buy the cold climate version. Its a difficult job anyhow and the extra bulk of the insulation makes it almost impossible. Might be easier with the manifold off, dunno. I was able to peel the insulation off the valve itself but i struggled with trying to connect it all up for ages before i did that.
Another thing that surprised me was how much oil that car has used recently, i get obvious smoke sometimes but it must have steadily burning it as well.
The old valve and pipework were completely full of mayo.
Took me around three hours I think.
