CCV PCV bypass anyone?

I was wondering if anyone had deleted the CCV/PCV valve, bypassing for a Oil Catch can instead?

I was testing for slight rough idle, condition of plugs, remnants of oil/yellow goo, vacuum at oil filler and dipstick, sluggish performance etc...

Idle is a little rough at cold but wasn't overly concerned.
No smoking at startup or after.
I'd say excessive oil consumption, using a refill bottle every month.
No oil leaks visible, valve cover done recently (along with VANOS seals) which was leaking onto ex manifold and stank. No yellow residue around the filler cap.
Iridium plugs removed, cleaned, checked, probably need replacing with a slightly worn earth arm, electrode was tip top. No residue or oil in the plug chambers or around the coils. Plugs to be fair have 40K on them :poke: to self!
DISA, I check this fairly regularly and was kit repaired a year ago, all good and quite clean. Entry for DISA valve not gunked either.
There is vacuum from both the oil filler and dipstick which I'd say was excessive? Normal tests with a freezer baggy over the holes with engine running, vacuum pull should be visible but not excessive - from reading this seems a symptom of failed CCV valve/diaphragm.
Performance wise I'd say it's sluggish, hesitant when cold, less so when hot.
No codes present.
There is a slight hissing which is difficult to locate but seems to be emanating around the intake side of the engine, all boots / visible hoses are good and clamped. There is no audible hissing under acceleration, only at idle.

The question is do I replace the CCV and hoses or bypass the system with an oil catch can, any experiences? I'm going to be doing the starter motor fairly soon and thought while I'm in there, intake gubbins out the way, hands dirty and probably bleeding, might as well do the CCV as it's 104K and probably never been done.

Are eBay kits safe or best buy OEM? That's when I stumbled on videos for catch cans which with hose re routing, remove the CCV from the venting system and save oneself from ever going in there again! Throttle body gasket needed, anything else over and above a kit?

Forgot to say, MPG....have not reset the average in a month, runs at 28.5 with few long journeys.
