CCV/PCV - Am I being silly?

I want to check on the CCV/PCV on my car and clean/replace it necessary, however according to realoem my car doesn't have one :/

Can someone point me in the right direction as all youtube videos I watched of various N52s do have one (albeit they all had a silver engine cover and mine is black?)

Thanks :)

That is odd as I thought all our cars had them?

I found in realoem that they only come up in 09/2006 and earlier for the 2.5si... how odd:

I hope someone will come along shortly and clear up our confusion!

The black top N52 has it built into the rocker cover. The silver top is external as shown above.

If you remove the black cover on your engine you should see it at the rear 'back left' and you'll also see the feed pipe to the rear of the rocker cover.

Ah I see that makes sense. I will take a look shortly. Is that item still serviceable/replaceable as usual or?

I did my rocker cover gasket last weekend and only noticed a diaphragm housing that looked like it could be removed. If your not using any oil or smoking out the exhaust I would leave it.

The car seems to use about 250ml oil every 600 odd miles or so, not sure if that's good or bad. No smoke as such though, however I do get a funny idle on cold start. It wobbles slightly and you can feel the vibration of the uneven idle in the seat, however that lasts about 20-30 seconds then it's fine and doesn't do it again until the next cold start. Since I've already replaced anything electrical that could be related (plugs, coils, checked and cleaned MAF, new battery) the last place to look is this CCV.

I ll see if I can find a video on this one and check it out.

Or it could be a very slight vacuum leak, I just did my rocker cover for this very reason. I would get the occasional hiccup at idle I then started getting oil in a couple of the spark plug holes.

Have you cleaned/replaced the vanos solonoids?

I was lead to believe the gasket has already been done by RBM, although previous owner had no invoice of that. No leaks anywhere else, I can see a tiny misting up around the camshaft adjusting unit thing that sticks out the top of the rocker cover, and I have ordered a gasket for it from BMW, should be here on Saturday. No oil in plugs or anything, hmm.

No I have not done that, I will see if I can find a tutorial on those and have a look, thanks Rob.

So it appears the CCV is not a servicable item on black top N52s, it is a whole rocker cover replacement job. I have looked around and prices don't seem too bad, plus its something I can change myself without too much hassle so, with that in mind I need some recommendations on which ones are good options from the below?

Are Metzger or Febi Bilstein solid options? I presume OEM will be at least double that price for the parts, so ideally want to go for a good quality aftermarket for now that includes all the bolts, gaskets ect.

Thanks

Elring/Febi/Vaico are all OEMs, not sure if they have changed over time.

If no-one here can recall what was stamped on their OE cover then if you have time you could pop yours off and see who made it before ordering.

Ah I see, it would be nice which is the best to go with as they are all at different price points. Also I can remove mine and check but then I will be left without a car for a while, as Autodoc takes a week to two for things to arrive.
