Thanks for everyones help so far.

Just looked a reasonably priced well specified 2003 Z4.

It had the flowing issues that isopod like your advice on.

The boot lid vertical left hand side bottom lip, just below the Z4 badge had rust that had eaten a tiny section of the boot away. There were also condensation beads of water on the inside top lid of the boot. It's been parked outside a dealers in a cold part of the UK, bit in direct sunlight and probably only been driven twice in 2 months. Yet the battery tray is dry?!

Question 1. How has the vertical section started to rust? Could water have entered where the Z4 letters are attached, or are the glued on?

Question 2. Would condensation form in the boot if it was parked outside but not used for months.

Q3 Any idea on price of replacement bootlid and easy of fitting?

Bonus question...
There was also a rattle (plastic trim i suspect) coming from behind the top of passenger seat. I was test driving so hard to isolate. This was with the wind deflector removed Does the mesh panel *inside* the roll over bars sometimes rattle and is there an easy fix?

Thanks in advance.

Not seen any rust on a Z4 and it's hard to picture where you are talking about exactly, badge just stuck on so no holes there.

Regarding rattle could be the panels between the hoops, has been takled about before and a small amount of silicone would hold in place.

Many thanks for info on potential cause of rattle. Sounds about right.

So the z4 letters on the rear just stick on. Thanks, that's useful to know if a got a better boot from a scrap yard. Was supprised to see this small section of rust too. I suppose cars that are 8 years old must start to rust if they have spent alot of time outside. Anyone replaced a Boot lid?

It may have had a bump and a new boot fitted and or a bad repair and paint job. Have a good look round for overspray etc and ask if as had any accident damage.

Can confirm that the plstic bit inside the roll hoop buzzes at certain revs on my car. Have been going to fix it with silicone for the last 3 years :) Will def do it this year!
