Cause for concern?

Whilst driving along Southend seafront in my newly cleaned zed, a couple of warning lights come up on the dash - same lights as when you hold down dsc and it turns everything off. ODB diagnostics shows:

I can see its the sensor - which I believe is the right hand wheel. Is this a DIY job to replace? Can anyone direct me to the correct part?

Also, some pics after wash, rinse, wash, rinse, clay & detail, wash, rinse, polish, wax and finally buff! Two bucket method. All Mcguires products.

Sorry I cant help, but what software are you using? I need to grab some myself for possible error codes and reprogramming autolock etc

There was a thread on here last week about an eBay seller providing a USB connector and software. For the life of me I can't find it! Sure someone will be along with the link shortly

Not sure how I misses the replies on here!

Anyway, here's the thread about the software:

The code has since gone which is good news.

I had this exact problem on my z. Part was about 80 quid and about £250 with labour. The error may have gone for now but it will be back. Mine did this several times before giving out completely.

I think you can buy the part for about £35. It seems to be a relatively simple fix, so if it does come back I'll attempt to resolve myself. Stealers - last resort.

Fingers crossed its gone for good though!

Spearman,
This must be the curse of southend.
I have had a Z4 for about a month and have done about 1500 care free miles.
But today while crusing along Southend sea front in the sun, there was a warning ping, and then both the amber brake light warning and the yellow triangle warning light both came on together.
Initially I thought I had a punture and it was the run flat warning lights but no.
I then drove home, about 20 miles and the lights stayed on, I also noticed that the DSC button didn't work.
Got home went to check the owners manual and found that this combination of lights mean that the DSC may have failed.
When I went back to the car, about 5 mins later, the lights have gone out. I went for about a 50mile drive and all was normal?
When searching for the route of this problem on the net, there seems to be a myriad of different opinions as to the cause,
some say, it's the ABS sensors on the wheels, others say, it's the brake pads, then there's the opinion that it's the DSC sensors, the DSC unit it's self and finally, the steering sensor.
Does anyone have the definitive answer?
I'm hoping it was a one off glitch, but I suspect not. :(
As a side note, I noticed that in my manual it shows the button that turns the DSC mode on and off is labelled DTS, mine says DSC.
My car is an 04 3.0SE, is this normal?

I was driving along the "shared space" area of the seafront a few weeks back, and it triggered - must be those bloody bumps!! I had the identical issue. If its gone out I wouldn't worry. Mines been on twice since I've had the zed, each time no difference in performance. If you press and hold the traction button it turns all driver aids off, which is displayed in the dash in the same light formation as your error.

Essentially there's two levels of "fun", press the dtc is the beginner option, press and hold the dtc button is for finishing off your rear tyres or going for a literal spin.

The error on mine was caused by the sensor in the drivers wheel (pictured above). Seems to be the most common explanation.

Other potential reasons include a failing battery, and the ecu turns off all non essential features. I'd recommend checking the voltage in your bat. Should be 12v then increase to about 13v when the cars running. This issue can also link to the alternator.

Test the battery, but other than that I wouldn't worry unless it's consistently playing up.

What colour zed are you driving Paul?

Went from Southend to Leigh yesterday, and decided to take the scenic route via the seafront. The dash lights are back on! Is this too much of a coincidence?!?!?

I'm thinking it's time to change sensor 2. Just need to track down the part!

Mine came on again today, whilst stuck in traffic (not in southend).
I'm thinking something is getting hot when your not moving fast.
Same thing again, turn off engine, leave a few minutes, all OK.
What sensor are you looking at?
Is it the DRC sensor, there are two of then positioned under the brake servo unit.

This has just happened to me a couple of times yesterday. The car was in for an Inspection 1 at the dealer on Monday (and nothing other than the usual filters and oil were replaced) but I can't imagine it being caused by anything they did. At least not enough to go pointing fingers!

Fortunately I've got a diagnostics/programming cable and software on the way (from eBay) so will be able to interrogate and find out exactly which sensor is malfunctioning before I get too excited replacing things and blasting with water!
