Caught Speeding

Was driving around Southport last night and slowed for a speed camera, then went a few hundred yards down the road only to get flashed by another! This one was on the other side of the road though. There were white markings on the opposite side of the road but not one the side I was on.

Does this mean I have been done speeding?

(Sorry if I haven't explained this properly)

Did it flash once or twice? Gatso cameras can work in both directions, but as far as I know the only ones approved in the UK for front facing use are Truvelo.

Some Gatso's flash once at oncoming vehicles, but if it was one flash then you have nothing to worry about. Also, if there were no markings on your side of the road then the chances are there is insufficient evidence to support a summons anyway.

tough call, probably ok... as sp3ctre says truvelo are only ones I know of for forward facing... and they are normally mounted on your side on the road - just facing you.

take a look here... Truvelo doesn't flash either...

guess you will know for sure in 2-3 weeks time...

Only forward flashing camera's are Tuvelo's, and they flash with a purple filter.

Tough call he, no numberplate on the front: Fine is £35 if (ever) stopped. Have a number plate and the fine is £60 + 3 points + whatever the insurance increase 8)

LOL! Surely you would get stopped in 5 minutes.... illegal spacing is one thing, but no number plate at all would stick out a mile?!

Was there traffic coming the other way?
If so I'd say it was snapping them not you.

If not, then its the wierdest case Ive ever heard of.
Gatso CANNOT read speed from forward approach.
They can only read from behind then snap as you go past.

Did you notice if it had coloured lenses with mesh wire covers? - Thats truvelo.
If it was standard Gatso then I really cant explain it. :?

It's actually quite common.... I know of one in Saddleworth that consistently does the same

Ever seen a picture of Sixspeeds car?

Ive seen a police car setting one off from the front - was overtaking on a shout (blues and twos going) through the camera zone :o

Thanks for all the advice on this. Sounds I should be able to get away with it after reading up on all the links you sent.

They cant prosecute using front facing photos.
Fact!

thestig - rather all encompassing statement. If you refer to Gatso then of course true, but there are plenty of forward facing photo cameras, but not with visible spectrum flash.

The way I read it was if a "gatso" flashed you head on then they can't prosecute..
