Cat sat on my roof

Nextdoors cat keeps climbing on to the roof of my car. This is winding me up something rotten as I've noticed a few small scratches on the paintwork that I haven't seen before.

Any suggestions to make sure it stays away? No 'hilarious' suggestions of air rifles etc please. I assure you I'll have heard it before.

It's really getting on my tits now though :headbang:

I have the same prob with my neighbours cats... Hate it... Also seen then sit on the bonnet as another cat would be on the roof :(

Same problem here - mucky cat footprints all over my car in the mornings. :x Might buy one of the ultrasonic deterrents and see if it helps. I think the motion-detect water jet ones are the most effective but I don't know how to rig one for use with the car as they're designed for garden use.

How about something like this, a cat repellent spray

http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=cat+repellent+spray&hl=en&prmd=imvns&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1920&bih=1099&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=16788348196450371109&sa=X&ei=1i9oT4P4K-PN0QW8hKz3CA&ved=0CIQBEPMCMAM

As it is intended for indoor use and on furniture it may be okay on your roof

I use to suffer with this problem to. I actually never see this cat but the foot prints across my car is enough to make me want to do something crazy. I tried a Defenders Mega-Sonic Cat Repeller which didnt seem to do much good. So i brought a cover from bmw for it, £150ish and now all is good.

This used to happen with my Z3 all the time and there is nothing you can do about it unfortunately bar garaging your car or like Kevdix said, a cover is the only answer.

Used to drive me mad too so I feel your pain.

Orange or lemon peel may work - cats hate citrus smells. May attract curious looks though? Perhaps try orange oils although I wouldn't put it directly on the roof

I have never seen a cat damage one of my soft tops, when I had them.

I was worried they may claw the material, but no they just like the cosy hammock feel thats all.

It's not just the roof though. Like I said, a few small scratches have appeared (scratches, not chips).

Some good ideas there, thanks. I think I'll try the spray and/or put some lemon peel in the flower beds near the car. Might think about sticking it in the garage too.

I was thinking about buying a cover for the roof anyway, I assume the cover will be just as attractive to the cat as the roof itself though. Anyway, I've found this one, anyone have one already?

How about lemon scented geraniums in pots strategically placed around your drive?

I am pretty sure out cats consider them the work of the devil.

And if it doesn't work they will still smell good.

I get the same problem! No scratches, just muddy paw prints on the bonnet! It's the next doors cat and knows it shouldn't be there as when it spots me it climbs off! When it rains there is a mark on the roof where it sits as the water beads up because of the oily fur! Not found a cure yet!
