cat d Z4MC

Hi

I have been to look at at 06 Z4MC that in 09 had a cat D frontal damage at 18k miles (currently 52K) and has been repaired it has all the toys.

The bonnet needs a respray as they were holes in it that have just been painted over .... what look like may of been bonnet clips? also they is movement in the center of the steering cowl (about 5mm up and down) the car is a bit scruffy but in general drives well.
They is no history to the accident the current owner did get a garage to inspect the work before he got the car however the current owner has FSH from the point of his ownership.

My question is how much do you think it is worth and does anyone know the history of the car?

not sure if I can post the registration up but it can be found on auto trader advertised for £12900.

Thanks

Phill

You mean this:

If you want a cheap Cat D, for £1K more, this might be less dodgy:

I wouldn't touch it. I'd actually go so far as to say any repairs appear to have been done 'on the cheap', from one observation of the photos alone (if it's the top link)- the bonnet is a standard Z4 one, not a Z4M one. If they've cut corners on something so obvious, what horrors lie beneath?

Not all cat d are crap if repaired properly if you after a cheep car but i agree with others this one looks like its been done on the cheep . He will have trouble shifting it on so keep a eye on it for a couple of weeks and if still for sale go in really cheep like £9500 grand if you can get it for that you could spend a grand on it getting it up to a good spec you would still have a cheep car .

Simple mass buy real cheap sell real cheap nothing lost, nothing gained. But you will have the same problem selling it on.

agree with that - I'd buy a cat D if I knew good history about it and the cause of the cat D, but this one sounds a bit suspect to say the least

Reminds me of that one we discussed about a year back. Blue Z4M coupe, standard bonnet, tacky repairs once the group tracked it down.

Cat cars are great if you're expert enough to know exactly what you're looking at, can get it cheap and expect to keep for ever or accept it will fetch nothing when sold on. I'll not do the mats but if you can buy for 30% off book and then later sell at 30% off book then you'll have taken less depreciation over th period of ownership.

thanks all... you are correct i will stay clear.

I don't understand why the bonnet was not repainted for the sake of 300 notes on the bonnet and 200 on the wheels it would look so much better.

I know a good ex Subaru world rally mechanic and he has repaired a few cat d cars in his spare time but never needed him on this one!

Yes you are correct the first add is the one... I called the dealer about the 2nd one and he said this is a cat C apparently stolen parts removed... parts replaced by Quarry motors not sure about the black wheels!

Point of order Mr Chairman; if whats been said about the bonnet is correct, how come sit fits?.....does that mean the M version is - gasp - a mere cosmetic adornment?! Shame on you!

Not to high jack this topic but on similar lines how can you find out what was the cause of the cat-D?

Eg front end , back end ,stolen, water damage, drug dealers car and been kept in the pound for 6 months for evidence etc

Good point actually, I'm off to check mine and how tight the fit is. Always thought it was required due to the throbbing powerplant

I would think the M bonnet is only cosmetic. My reasoning being, on a z4 with strut brace fitted, the highest part under the bonnet is the strut brace and the same strut brace fits all models.

they was a strut brace that went across the engine that I had not seen on others before?

Ive started thinking about the 08 cat C one now at least it will of had a mandatory inspection after the repair !

My Z4 is a Cat D, it had 28,000 on the clock when I got it FSH, and only needed a headlight and a bumper and bonnet to repair it, a van reversed into it every other aspect of it was mint.
Just depends on what the accident was to begin with. however as the others have said, if he's cut corners on the repair then you're taking a big risk.
