does anyone have any knowlege on what percentage in value drop there may be on a z4mr?

thanks Lee

Lee - might be me but perhaps a bit more of an explanation needed. Your thread is entitled Cat D Value - does this refer to accident category damage?

I guess the value will be at least 20% lower if you can find a buyer. And for sure BMW dealers don't want it as AUC.

must also depend on damage, some cat d cars may only have slight damage to one panel but the owner has insurance that will put them back in a new car.

I would want history of damage and would only consider if I knew I was going to keeo for some time.

The car was bought new from the dealer, there was a fire in the dealers garage, no damage done to the Z4 but the dealer claimed for all the cars on the insurance hence the car being put on a cat d from new. Apparently the seller has a letter from the dealer confirming this, it's a car I'm looking to buy.
Thanks Lee

It varies drastically based on condition but for what you are describing, at least 20% off - it will always be less desirable than a 'clean' car and some insurers won't cover it due to it's CAT D status. I'd personally avoid unless it's a real deal, thus compensating for any future hassle selling it. Having said that:

no damage done to the Z4 but the dealer claimed for all the cars on the insurance hence the car

...wouldn't that be fraud? The car must have had 'smoke damage' or something for the insurer to pay out...reminds me of that Simpsons episode - 'sorry sir, your policy only covers actual losses, not made up stuff'.

:D

Cat D is usually anywwhere from 20%-40%....its sometimes an issue with your insurer too so worth checking.

He may have a letter but I'm not sure I buy that story TBH.....I mean can you seriously see an insurance assessor (and there would unquestionably be one in such a case) glibly signing off an unnecessary £30k+ claim element like that???

I don't think so personally.....

But on the plus side CatD is usually minor damage - not sure if any insurance database contains details of the actual claim...? Might have been just a serious valeting job...

Few dodgy cars are here with actual history - maybe search on the reg number to be sure.

Agreed with above - that seems like fraud to me.

I'm sure I remember being told "Z4 are girls cars" by a certain person who took me for a test drive, prior to me buying their wife's Z4

I recognise this username, how's it going Lee? :D

Haha, the cars for me (the wife :) I miss my old one... How's she doing?

We got a 58 M3 which I loved but the 1 car thing wasn't working out (I curbed a wheel which nearly led to divorce lol), so we sold it and I got a 59 TT which I just couldn't get away with, love how it looked but SO boring to drive, I've been spoilt with 400+bhp evo's & M3's ;) So the TT went and I'm.. well Lee is looking for a Z4M for ME, think he's going to go for another Evo or a GTR.

Hope your looking after my baby well!!

Anyone selling - must be immaculate condition with low miles, I'm in no hurry, will wait for the right car.

Hi Joy, you're old car's doing well - didn't realise it was a "she", I'd have expected her to be more tempremental ;)

You guys did a great job of looking after it, sorry, I mean her. Paintwork was in great shape, I've kept her well waxed and she lives in a garage every night. I cycle to/from work almost every day so I don't do any short journeys - very much a fun car and for longer journeys, hence only covering 7k miles in her so far. I'm looking forward to a week-long driving trip up the west coast of Scotland and across onto Skye in a few weeks so that should add a few miles.

Both rear springs were snapped and were replaced immediately. New tyres too. Six months ago I got fed up with corrosion on the original alloys and sold them after a refurb - she now wears ellipsoid-style alloys. I've added my own private reg, cruise control, a newer Z4 headunit to play MP3 discs, but the big change I made was adding heated seats (identical-looking to the originals). I'm in the middle of fitting the original unheated seats into my camper van, so they live on.

I've got a photo thread back to when I collected her HERE plus a flickr set HERE. Hope you don't get too sentimental!

And she's not for sale before anyone asks . But you'll love a Z4M even more anyway. Good luck with the hunting :)
