Cat D Coupe

Depends on what OP wants and the budget he has.We have had a few coupes become race or track cars here and that car would be perfect for that. He may have a tight budget and is spanner qualified to make a decent job to sort it out. Its a bit rough with overspray and bonnet to front panel a bit iffy. But we cant really see behind things and quantify the repairs from a couple of photos.
I wouldnt walk away if it I felt it was a good deal and would do what I wanted it to.

I do have to laugh at people who say walk away or that they wouldn't buy a CAT car - How do you know with any car that you buy that it hasn't been involved in an accident and repaired outside insurance?
You don’t.

But they won’t be ‘Cat’ cars as they’ve never been written off by an insurance company. I do have to laugh at people who don’t realise this :poke:

But this one is a Cat car, and the repairer didn’t even bother matching up the lights, so it may be that they repaired it at the least cost they could...assuming they’d be holding onto it for a while and “it wouldn’t matter to them”. But now they come to sell it, they realise the “little issues” they were happy to overlook are a bit of a sticking/talking point.

We’re not actually saying there’s anything wrong with this specific car, just that you need to go in there fully educated.

Thanks for the input guys, it doesn’t look too bad in the pictures but we all know that real life is often far different. Fortunately I can do all the mechanics myself if needs be however, if there is stuff that needs doing it will soon add up ie I’d have to change the passenger headlight, put new washer covers on and that’s what we can see. It may need shocks at 127k so suddenly you are in for potentially another 1k! Unfortunately the seller is capitalising on the current high prices of Coupes and putting it up for somewhat more than the 4.5k baseline figure that most are suggesting. Whilst I’d love a little project, the fact that the consensus is 4.5k on here is concerning as the seller won’t go anywhere near that figure. So with the above argument regarding matching lights etc you are suddenly closer to some of the more cherished examples currently for sale and as they say “a fool and his money are easily parted” 🤔

You’ll need to stump up £7k and up at that mileage for a “straight” Coupe, but you could get a very decent Roadster for £4.5k.

So, taking account of the suggested 30% (£2100) reduction for a Cat D, you’re looking at less than £5K...and the seller seems to be wanting the full £7k or thereabouts.

Closer to 6 mate.

I’d be very careful buying a CAT car in the current market. I could be completely wrong, but I don’t see the current bubble around Z4’s prices lasting.

You could end up paying £6k for a car that needs money spending and will never be worth the same as a non-CAT car... and if the bubble bursts, and you need to sell, you’ll be out of pocket big time.

There have been many people, with too much time on their hands and limited ability to spend money on holidays, going to the pub, sporting events etc, etc in 2020. When things start to return to normal, and spending returns to normal... I can see a lot of ‘toy cars’ getting ditched - including Z4’s.

Like I say, I might be wrong, but I can’t see much of a ‘spring surge’ as decent cars are still selling in December with firm prices.

Wise words mate and I have to agree with you there.

The fitted drivers side headlamp wash also looks wrong and certainly doesn’t match the passenger side.

Bumper needs adjustment at the bonnet corners also.
