CAT C car - how much should it affect the value?

Might be going to see a car which is a CAT C repaired and had been run daily for almost 40k miles - mileage on the car is now around 140.
The car and spec is amazing. The owner seams fanatical about his cars and it also have full BMW history.

My question is what hit does the CAT C have on the regular selling price as a percentage do we feel?

The car's engine sucked in some water by the past owner trying to drive through a flood. The insides were untouched but the engine needed a new con rod and piston and steering rack. All OEM parts and fitted by BMW.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Defo haggle like your life depends on it! If there is proof that was what was done, and it was all BMW parts and work then I'm sure it will a) do you fine, b) not be difficult to sell later to someone who knows their stuff. At 140k would you be looking to get rid though?

I've usually seen Cat D suggested 10-15% off normal valuation and Cat C 20-25% as a rough guide. Have you considered how it will affect insurance quotes?

A car with 140k would be pretty low value I would imagine, so the 10% or whatever % you use is hardly going to make a difference.

Yep - good points. He has all the receipts for the parts but the labor was done by a BMW tech in his own time - as far as i know - need to be validated. That said, when he took the car for a service last year to the sale dealer where his friend works, he also got a KDS done - which to me is excessive when you can get the same thing done by a Hunter machine. What im trying to say here is that the guy is not shy at spending a few quid when its needed and getting it done properly.

In terms of mileage that's not really too much of a worry (or i hope not at least!). The car is intended to be used as my daily and to rest the ///M. And i will run it for 3 years and sell it.

So if i was to get this say for 6-7k - and then sell for 3.5k with 200k on the clock - then that's cheap luxury motoring

If it's the same one I enquired about around October / November last year, it wasn't the current owner who took it swimming but an owner previous to him and he didn't have much record of the work. It's possible that two 330d have been hydrolocked but it would be a coincidence.

Probably different ? Where was that one based?
This guy says he has evidence of the work and receipts

I can't remember the detail now but I think it was in the South East since I was seriously considering it. Certainly, it would have been no further from London than the Midlands or West Country.
