Carsoft error

I connected carsoft 6.5 to my car as I have the airbag light on. I wanted to see if carsoft would clear it temporarily so I could investigate what is causing it. I ran the diagnostic check and the instrument cluster had an error (presumably the airbag light). The error was:

20 Internal error in the LCM module

Does that mean it is the airbag light? I cleared the memory but then when I ran diagnostic again the error was still there. I presume this is because whatever tripped the airbag light is still causing a problem?

The other error I had was in the CVM section:

13 Soft Top Close Switch : continuously active

mmm, could that be due to having the rhinehold module installed? I tested the roof and it worked fine, so I am less bothered about that.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Jim

May have a problem with the passenger seat airbag sensor. IMZ4N has an extensive thread on this, along with the Recall info (US only if I remember correctly :x ), but it might give you a good start.

Yeah, I was hoping carsoft would be a little more specific as to what had tripped. No idea what "internal error in LCM module" even means.

mmm, reading up on other posts it has been mantioned (by shipkiller) that the SIM needs to be reset. On the big list that carsoft gave me when I did the full diagnostic SIM was one of the modules that failed to respond. I know not all modules are compatible with the Z4.

I assumed it was either the AIRBAG (checked OK) or the Instrument cluster that needed to be reset. Just want to check that I have not missed anything.

LCM Module is the Light Check Module i think? So that sounds pretty unrelated...

I recently had to have the whole Airbag Control Unit replaced under warranty for the umbiquitous 'Airbag Light Issue.' My friend who owns a garage tried to delete the code with his Snap-On OBDII Scanner (They cost ££££'s!) but with no luck, presumably because the thing was dead... Hope this isnt the case with yours :(

I know we have PM'd but for wider benefit my airbag light was reset today by the dealer. Diagnosed as an open circuit in the passenger airbag module. Turned out to be a loose connector in the door. Their machine was more specific than Carsoft that just kept identifying and clearing the code, but of course with a root problem unfixed the error and light remained on.

LCM errors on mine were cleared and unrelated to airbag.

thanks for that, going to do a bit of investigation myself before I hand it over to BMW... first things first, the window regulator needs sorting, the airbag can wait for the time being

Update - car report back in my hands - was actually 'resistance too high in O/S door panel due to poor connection in A post. Cleaned and rebuilt'
Shows even an advisor can't tell you what a mechanic actually found and did...lol

Just got mine back from independent for window regulator replacement and airbag light. Seems the airbag light is still on, they say their kit "won't talk to it". I guess that may be from where I tried to reset it myself, so it now says it's ok, although the friggin light is still on.

Anything else I can try before resorting to main dealer? Their charges scare the living **** out of me :(

Nargh - I gave up on the airbag as my local guy told me his software did not have the Z4 code in it. He can do any other BMW. He even tried to pretend it was an X3 but the car was smarter than that...lol

Actually mine turned out to need a new loom so despite clearing the code the light of course remained on as it never cleared the fault, just the error code

Breathe deeply and call the dealer...

Yeah, I think my carsoft cleared the error code, but the light is still on. Not looking forward to the bill, the regulator has already cost me £200 :(

The "13 Soft Top Close Switch : continuously active" means that the processor is seeing the 'Close Button" being continuously pushed, or put another way: "active".

Yeah, I think that is an old error from by **** up of installing the roof module. I cleared that and it never came back. The roof also works fine. Only problem now is the bleedin airbag light :(

Just picked my car up from the ind. dealer and they said their Bosch KTS unit wouldn't speak to the airbag unit. Apparently they use this all the time for all BMW's and it tells them which airbag is reporting the fault. They seem to know what they are talking about, which worries me. Off to the main stealer then, I guess :(

That's pretty much exactly as per my Indy on the Z4 airbag. He told me each model has a code and BMW are obliged under EU law to release codes to the Indy network, but for his machine he could not get the code. I don't profess to understand this, but he deals with every other BMW and make of car, had an expensive bit of kit and had no reason to be anything but open with me.

Carsoft itself can clear the code, but not point to what or why it was caused so if recurring then not much use.

Just as info, what independent are you using, as Harrogate is pretty close to me...

Good luck with the fix anyway! Tempted to 'buy' carsoft myself, but it seems despite the ruberick on their site it doesn't actually help you track down the actual faults much better than a normal obd fault code scanner would... (from your posts)

I used Hammerton Cars on the A59 between Harrogate and York. The reason I used them is the fact they provide a courtesy car.

If you would like to try out the Carsoft and are passing Harrogate gimme a shout, you're more than welcome to try it out and see what it tells you :D

I already have a few other tools, just interested in what Carsoft offers ontop of the more generic stuff.

I'll give you a shout via PM next time I'm over that way...

Thanks
