Cars you almost bought...the ones that got away

Wondemike it's not to late to buy the //m seeing as ur thinking of changing from the merc, christurbo fancy listing some of the cars u have had, sounds like an interesting story!

When I bought my Zed in Oct 09, the credit crunch was at its worst for powerful car sales...

An extra 7.5k on top of my Z4 would have bought me a 50,000 mile Mercedes SLK-55 AMG... And looking at current prices, could have sold it on for a £3k profit around now! Fortunately though, i've met some great people through the Zed and the extra monies went on bank shares which have netted a greater profit!

Next credit crunch ill have to remember though, a Merc V8 is a better investment than ANY savings account by far!!

About 1 year prior to buying the White Z4 I have now, they had a light blue 1999 Z3 with 18,000 miles show up... The wife even pointed it out to me. I stopped by to inquire about the price and gauge their interest in a quick sale. They never called me back and it sold a few days later. D'oh!

A black Alpina Roadster S from Sytner Nottingham. Test drove it and it was lovely. Great engine sound, stonking performance, better build quality than my old Zed Roadster IMO and a rarity factor as well.

Alpina is an unscratched itch for me. Maybe I'll have a B3 S Bi-turbo coupe next.

In 1961 I was offered but passed on an 1955 MG TF completely dismantled in pieces for a mere $1500. I'd sure like to have that one today, but, of course, they are, now, quite pricey. Then, in 1963 I almost bought a 1957 Alpha Romeo Giulietta coupe. I passed on it because I was afraid it would have had a lot of down time for repairs (they were notoriously unreliable). But what a great car to drive. I wound up buying my first TR4, not a bad choice and easy to keep running.

Mazda RX8, took it out for a test drive, then when trying to get back on the A14 by the sugar factory at 50mph in 4th the traction control cut in, changed to 5th traction control cut in, changed to 6th traction control cut in yet again, getting worried by now as we were running out sliproad and were slowing down all the time as any time you put the slightest bit of pressure on the throttle the traction control cut in, got back to the showroom told them what happened, 'Ah well you'll just have to take it out in the dry' like it never rains in the Uk, needless to say never bought it and got the Zed instead.

Many years ago really wanted a Honda Prelude, found one went to look at it, I couldn't sit in it the roof line was too low, gutted. Got a Peugeot 405 MI16 4X4 instead, awesome car, I will have another 4 wheel drive car one day.
