Cars That We Have Loved & Lost (crashed or sold)

I think these pictures should be visible to all.

The Cortina and the black MGB are not pictures of the actual cars that I had.

These are the later motorbikes

Early motorbikes were a Suzuki A100, Honda CBR250 and Yamaha RZ350. Plus a short time with a Suzuki 750 triple, but I didn't actually own it, my brother did.

There is no way I'm posting the picture of me on the A100 at 16!

Andi.

My Car History

S-Reg, Vauxhall Chavette Estate - Maroon. My first car given to me by step father. It got broken into at unit with a screwdriver in the lock, which damaged the doors. No problem a quick trip to breaker and we find two bright yellow doors with keys. Fit them job done. So for about a year I driving around a maroon car with bright yellow doors it was quite a look. Oddest thing my dad phoned me at Uni asking what I was going in Orpington once weekend as he had seen another Maroon Chavette Estate with a yellow door. So there were two of them! Once got pulled over at 95mph (on the clock) on the M25 in this, that was an experience.

PX'd that (yep someone paid money for it) for an Orange V-Reg Datsun Violet 140J, the first car I paid for cost me 300 notes plus the Chavette, probably the one car I regret selling over all other, have very found memories of that car, for the life of me I cannot work out why I sold it, my guess is it was knackered

The Datsun was replaced by a C-Reg 1.6L Mitsubishi Gallant, worse purchase I ever made, the gear box went at one point so had to be changed, the replacement box clearly wasn't a perfect match and it just wasn't right again. Having agreed a PX on the next car with a dealer, it was hit while parked the day before I was due to pick up next car. Ended up giving it away for scrap. Hated that car. This is probably why I have such found memories of the Datsun.

The next car was 2.0l Sierra. That was a fun car, my flat mate ended up crashing it at 60mph into oncoming traffic while given some friend of mine a lift home as I was getting ready for date. Fortunately they all walked away with nothing more than a bit of whiplash. Car was totalled ended up given it to recovery company. Worse part was the date that evening, as you can imagine I wasn't in best of moods, date didn't go well and I never saw her again, this despite being on a promise that night. Oh how we laughed about that one.

The Sierra was replaced with Volvo 440 1.9 GTX, a great car, lots of fun. Only problem was an electrical fault which would result in the whole car going dead for no reason. The only thing you could do was slam the underside of the dash on the drivers side and it would spring back to life. This used to alarm passengers, particularly when it happened at 70mph+ on the motorway. My step father brought this off me and eventually gave it my younger brother. They never did sort the fault.

Then I got a promotion and company car, initially a L-Reg 1.7TD Vauxhall Cavalier. Crap car but it had 73k when they gave it to me being the oldest crappiest car in the fleet to give to the newly promoted bod. However the company at the time paid all UK fuel including personal use and the company car guidelines said car should be replaced at 5 year or 80,000 miles. It's amazing who quickly you can do 7k miles when you are not paying for anything including fuel. Fleet manage was visibly upset when less than month later I was order a new car. This was a 2.0TD Vectra, an R-Reg and the first year it was the Vectra design chassis and not the old Cavalier running gear that the early one were. For a diesel rep mobile I couldn't fault it. I took this to Glastonbury in 1998 and it came back very very muddy inside and out, I left the company a week later parked it in the car park gave keys to boss and left.

Then I had a Rover 200, a K-reg I think brought to commute 40miles each way in. It has the Honda in disguise module. Nice car, wouldn't buy another. Ended up giving it to a mate with 150k on it and broken starter motor.

Then I met the wife and for a while drove here L-Reg 1.0l Polo. Nuff said. Traded this in for 6,000 9 month old, 1.6 Ford Focus Zetec in Feb 03, which I still own to this day. Now it's done 117k and is still going. £8.5k for 11 years driving and 111k miles. Only serious things to go wrong is the clutch (only the one) brake pads (twice all round), brake discs (once), a fuel injector unit and tyres of course. Good value I think?

Then there's the treat to myself last year which is the z4 28i mSport......

I driven a lot more cars than this though, many hire cars, company pool cars etc.

The only one I'm wistful about trading is #69. If only I had the garage space to keep two zeds... :)

I always regret selling my first Celica. It was a Black Gen 6 ST only a 1.8 not that fast but was in fantastic condition I absolutely loved owning it sold it to get a gen 7 Celica it was a good car but not the same. I loved my first one many happy days driving it :driving:

Back in 1980 I sold my 1977 Primrose Yellow MG Midget, UFR 33R.

The Lad that bought it drove it home uninsured, he'd driven less than 10 miles,
hit a central reservation rolled the car and wrote it off

I really should have kept that car I'd love it to be in my garage now.

1987 - VW Polo 998cc of raw power with lightened door panels (metal apparently replaced with newspaper along the bottom).
1989 - Vauxhall Chevette hatchback both front wings rusted through
1990 - Ford Capri 1.6 pristine condition bright red with wolfrace slot mags - The ladies loved it - I had arrived!
1992 - GTM Coupe kit car with go-kart handling great fun but I went through engines and gearboxes more frequently than oil changes
1994 - Ford Capri 2.8 injection - still to this day one of the nicest cars I've ever driven.
1997 - VW Passat Estate 1.9TDi (company car)
1999 - Vauxhall Vectra SRi (oh dear - another company car)
2000 - GTM Rossa II kit car
2003 - Audi A2 (baby arrived so 2 seater kit car was no longer adequate)
2004 - Covin Turbo Cabriolet (impulse buy at a kit car show)
2010 - Nissan Qashqai +2
2011 - BMW Z3 2.2 roadster
2012 - BMW Z4 3.0i roadster

Have usually had 3 of these kicking around at any one time for some reason? :?

Ford Escort 1.6 £500 shed. Earned me a prohibition notice and points. Scrapped.
Ford Orion 1.6 SE. I wiped this one out, and several parked cars showing off to friends
Fiesta Mk1 Supersport. A bit of a classic but had a problem starting. Exhaust fell off. Gave it away.
Astra Mark 2 convertible. The one with the digital dash. Traded in after six years.
Golf GTi Mark 3 Anniversary Edition. One of only 150 imported to UK. Some nice touches including a Golf Ball gear knob. Kept tramlining got hit with a big bill to change the gearbox. Traded.
Pug 205 GTi. My favourite car to drive first, even beats the zed. Wiped this but I was a bit unlucky, behind a van on a dual carriageway driving ridiculously slowly in lane 2, went to undertake but there was a broken down car in the first lane. Smack. Fortunately no injuries aside from the Pug, learnt a big lesson that day on the road take nothing for granted.
3 series 328Ci. Beautiful car, lovely gearbox, interior was amazing was quick as well.
Downgraded to a boring Focus 1.6 Zetec. Functional and reliable, got T-boned by a police car who pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. Whiplash, a metre away from likely serious injury impact was driver side front wing and lifted the car off the ground.
Zed, first genuine sports car 8)
