Cars That We Have Loved & Lost (crashed or sold)

Didnt pass my car test till I was 22, I loved bikes to much, cant remember the years I had them,,

Suzuki AP50 (enough said)
Yamaha LC250 (all my mates had one, so I thought id better get one)
Triumph Trident ( could take apart and re build the engine in under 2 hours, lots of practice :D )
Laverda Jota (what a bike in its day  )
Honda CBx 1000 (managed to crash this one)
Ford Fieast XR2 (red with pepperpot wheels, loved that car)
Ford 2.8 Capri ( corners in the wet, wont go there)
Saab 2.3 turbo ( well I thought it was a good idea at the time)
Vauxhall 2.0 SRI ( my idea of a sensible family car)
Audi A4 2.6 ( nice car)
BMW 328i (bought this one in hamburg rhd, and brought it back to the UK)
And now my Z4
I have had several bikes in amongst the cars, Kawasaki Z9, Honda Fireblade and my present sensible one a Triumph Dayatone, which surprisingly I love to bits.

not that many, but I was a late starter..

Punto 90 ELX (first car after passing test). 94M with leaky sunroof
Ford Puma (the larger of the two engines). Brand new (2000W), imported from Holland and saved a fortune

Subaru Impreza, blobeye. also brand new 2003 '53. Black. Loved this one and very sad to see it go. Spent quite a bit on mods (prodrive backbox, springs, Superleggaras, front lip) and sold it for a pittance as the wife didn't like it.

Giant pile of 3-series of different sizes and ages.

E46M3 silver automatic. Loved it too, but again the wife got fed up after about 12 months and the running costs were quite expensive

E92 325SE. Nice
E92 330CI Msport. Much nicer. Actually only kept the 325 for about 4 months and decided I wanted the top non-turbo engine so moved up.

...and now I have my Z4 coupe. God knows how long I'll keep it - these days I have a terrible track record. But I love it at the moment.

My lists quite short....

1988 1.3L Nova
1988 1.3L Nova (The same colour and spec as the first)
1989 1.5TD Nova (Yes another one but running 1.0bar boost, 85bhp+)
1988 Mk1 MR2 (Still own)
2007 2.0i Z4
2009 Swift Sport

2006 - 1.5l Diesel Renault Clio
2009 - 3.0l Z4 Roadster

Epic list...

1) Nova 1.0 - 1st car, all I could afford, yellow, 4 gears, 17.0 0-60mph and did 100mph ONCE after a long wait of flat out aceeleration. Was rusty but I loved it and cleaned it weekly. Lasted a year then sold for £25 when it badly failed its MOT.

2) AX GT - airfix build quality but was fast for an 18yr old, I just got parkers and went through insurance group vs 0-60mph times = this. Carbs too! Lasted a year or so before it died of HG failure.

3) Fiesta 1800, what great seats. Ahem again it last about 1.5 years and died, rusted block! Common on the eaarly Zetecs apparentley. Wasn't amazingly fast but ok, expensiev to insure at 19.

DSCN0522.jpg

3) Got fed up with cars not lasting, so got a loan and bought a 106GTI from auction, great car, canned it to death and it never let me down, such fun handling. Had it 2 years, sold for barely any loss too!

DSCN0279.jpg

4) Fiat Coupe 20vt, I wanted to move away from the boy racer hot hatch, at the time these were kinda classy. It was very quick, only M3's and such were faster on a motorway duel, unbeatable bang for buck! looked great too, and the noise, I'll never ever buy a 4pot ever again now. Handling wasnt amazing though and started to become old/problematic near the end, had it about 4-5 years though!

5) Z4 3.0i

I wanted a Alfa 147GTA, or a 350Z or Alfa GT. Couldnt find a GTA for the right money (I dont pay over the odds), and ended up with the Z because someone sent me a link for one that seeemd too good to be true, local, mint, good spec etc. Went to see it and the rest as they say is history.....bought it before I'd even driven it (my mechanic friend drove and inspected it for me) It needs another 150bhp, but I love convertible motoring.

shabba, My 106 GTi was on an R plate too! Interior was a bit cramped but I remember Jeremy Clarkson praising it on Top Gear at the time! :D

1988 Fiat Uno 45 .... Urgh... Sold on the sly after repeated undiagnosable breakdowns!

3 x 1989/90 Escort 1.4 LX's, written off, stolen & 'beyond economic repair'... Did like my Escorts!

1989 Nissan Micra 1.0 ... The shame... Sold for my first decent car

1998 Ford Ka '3' 1.3 ... Brilliant car, cheap reliable, great to drive, so much so that replaced with...

2003 Ford SportKa SE 1.6... Most fun to drive car i've had, totally chuckable, stuck like glue to the road, still miss it sometimes! :driving:

2004 Toyota MR2 'Red' Roadster... Great to drive, totally impractical, rattled more than the Micra

And currently 2006 Z4 Roadter 2.0i SE... OBVIOUSLY my fave car to date

Mine is shockingly bad for actual cars ive owned...
'01 Suzuki Jimny 1.3 JLS (Ex-Mothers but Off-roadified - Actually better off road than on!)
'03 Seat Ibiza 1.2s (My only car bought from new - loved it)
'04 Seat Ibiza Cupra Diesel (Furious torque, frugal, didnt loose a penny, but boring to drive)
IMG_3127.jpg
'01 Vauxhall VX220 NA (Best car ive driven in dry, scarey in wet, modified to hell, louder than a 747 at Takeoff, ran like crap - pop pop pop bang)
EdVX220.jpg
'03 Z4 3.0i (After the VX this was a bit boring but after finally meeting all you guys on runs, soon put that to an end. Great all round car and cant see myself ever getting rid of it. Perfect power/handling balance, great looks, doesnt cost the earth - excellent car  )

I know who owns both of my previous Ibizas now and am considering asking to buy one back!

Shabba, that 20vt is lovely! :)

Sold for £1300! 14.5 1/4 mile as standard. To be fair though after driving the Z for a while I went back and drove a 20vt and it was comical, power delivery was still great but the gearbox slop was very funny, felt like steering a bus too compared to the low Z.

Before I was old enough to drive on the road...
1983 Mini City 1000. Belonged to my Mum, but I thrashed it around an airfield to learn how to drive.
But then on the road:
1989 Volvo 340 1.7 GL. Regarded as my first car, even though technically owned by my parents again. Taught me some valuable RWD lessons.
1994 Peugeot 306 1.4 XL. Woefully underpowered, I decided it would be replaced by a GTi or XSi. Then it turned into a disaster zone of unreliability which made me never want to own a Pug again.
1993 Ford Mondeo 2.0 Si. Had RS alloys, RS body kit, JanSpeed Twin Exhausts and about a grands worth of stereo. Loved the car but decided it needed more power. So enter the...
2000 Ford Mondeo ST200 (2.5 V6). Best car I'd ever owned by a country mile at this point. Clocked up 80k miles in complete comfort, was reliable and fun to drive. Shame it had to go at some point.
Second car runabouts then come into play:
1998 Ford Mondeo 2.0 Ghia. Was given it free by emmigrating brother-in-law. Decent enough car, but not a patch on the ST. Sold it for a smaller run-about:
1998 Ford Puma 1.7 - Without a shadow of doubt, the best car I've ever owned in terms of fun & enjoyment compared to money paid. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone, and would have one again. Unfortunately met with a sticky ending involving a Corsa.

Eventually the Puma wreck and me looking for a replacement for the ST led to:
2006 Ford Focus 1.6 Ghia. Cheap, comfy, economical runabout.

and saving the best till last...

2007 BMW Z4 3.0Si Sport Coupe. Obviously the reason for being here! Best car I've owned although worth considerably more than the rest.
