Cars as old as you!

I read earlier on BBC News that it is 50 years since the first Ford Escorts rolled out of Halewood.

And I remembered them being new, which did make me feel rather old! :(

Then I realised that the Anglia 105E began production in the year I was born

Still the same year did produce the Mini and the MKII Jaguar, so it wasn't all bad news!

So what car was introduced in the year you were born?

The first e30 3 series??? 1984 :D
Still never owned the model that first got me into BMW's when I fell in love with a Macau blue 325i sport which was parked on our street as a kid.

a few nice ones

BMW 3200 CS (the first BMW to feature the Hofmeister kink)
Alpine A110
Jaguar E-Type
Volvo P1800

Here are a few from 1956:

BMW 507 (I was surprised they were introduced so long ago)
Studebaker Golden Hawk (only included because I had a Corgi model)
Tourette (maybe it caused bizarre behaviour)
Renault Dauphine
Jaguar Mark 8

The BMW 507 has still got to be the best looking car BMW have ever made. Grand daddy of the zed 4 you can kinda see in the zed proportions how it harks back to the 507

BMW E21 3 Series 1975. I guess without the success of the first 3 Series none of us would have zeds and consequently no forum!

1948 Riley 1.5 - my birth year

My uncle had one - same colour - he used to take me out in it

I remember the launch of the Escort - I was 13 at the time. Went on to own a MK1 1300XL Estate. It proved to be a pretty simple and reliable machine.

Cars launched in 1955 included;

VW Karmann Ghia
MGA
Triumph TR3
Mercedes Benz 190
Jaguar Mk1
and in the US, the Ford Thunderbird

Ford GT40
Aston Martin DB6
Triumph TR4a ( had a TR4 myself)
Dodge Charger

Really loved my TR4 but it used to shake things loose . Spent more time polishing the celulose paint in connifer green.

Cars from the year I was born

My driving instructor had a run-out MKI 1300XL 2 door on an M-plate. A great car IMO - after all I passed my test in it!

That's a great idea for another thread "Cars you past your test in." Might just start that.
