Carly Pro App

Hi, Has anyone bought the cheap Carly Pro App sold on ebay for under a fiver? If so does it work? I was wondering if it is the real deal or a con as the one from Carly costs £60 a year subscription so how could they do it for under five quid?

Many thanks

I assume it is for Android? It may or may not work but at that price it certainly won’t be genuine.

Hi Yes it is for an android. My gut feeling is it can't be much good for under a fiver? Just wondered if anyone had tried. Thanks

I can’t help with personal experience as I use iOS. I would imagine the app is cracked to avoid the Carly payment. It may well work but it depends if you feel comfortable installing an app from an unknown source on your phone and the possible security implications.

It will work fine, just a cracked version of the app which is freely available around the internet. You still need to buy their adapter though.

If I were you I'd skip Carly and get ProTool, it's far superior product.

Its probably a scam, you install it and then they access your phone. Google/Android is very good at losing data, being hacked etc. I would leave well alone.

Is protool an app or a device??

I've already bought the Carly adapter but I'm thinking of sending back during the 30 day free return period. All I want to do is change a battery on my 2009 Z4 and if possible code the roof to open/close on the remote.

What is the Pro Tool?

You should be able to open the roof from your remote without coding. Carly cannot code the roof to close from the remote. To do this you need to have the Comfort Access package or fit a SmartTOP module.

I watched a video on YouTube where a guy used Carly app to code his roof to open on the remote. Mine doesn't work on the remote. Sorry don't know what Comfort Access package is or what a SmartTOP module is?

Comfort access is where the car unlocks and can be started with the key in your pocket, smart top is an aftermarket module which will allow you to open and close the roof from the key fob, where are you as some markets don’t have the roof opening from the key fob

https://www.bimmergeeks.net/protool

It's the closest you can get to the full official dealership software on your phone. Does everything from error code reading to live data monitoring and module reprogramming. It uses a standard K+DCAN cable that all other BMW applications use.

If you are in the UK then the top should open from the key fob, you may have an issue with your car battery if it’s not working

Thanks Chippie, I've tried many a time but it doesn't work. I thought it was only certain models that had the option to use the remote? Amazingly my battery is the original 2009 battery and I know needs replacing as it is discharging, but still starts the car ok. Maybe once I replace the battery it will work? All I need to do is work out which OBD thing would be best to register a new battery without costing the earth.

As Chippie says it should work if your battery is fully charged and in good condition. You also have to be close to the car. SmartTOP https://www.mods4cars.com/sms/shop/?p=b3JnYT1zbWFydHRvcCZncm91cD0xJmxhbmc9MiZjdXJyPTEmc21zX2NvdW50cnk9MjIy&r=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvLnVrLw== is an excellent piece of kit for the E89 and gives you many options but it doesn't come cheap.

I really like the SmartTOP module on mine, it does more than just the roof as well as it can be used to autofold / dip wingmirrors and control window movement following opening / closing the roof.

Mine is set up such that:
1 click lock = lock car and auto fold mirrors in
1 click unlock = unlock car and auto fold mirrors out
2 click lock = lock car, auto mirrors in, windows up (roof stays where it is)
2 click unlock = unlock car, auto mirrors out, windows down (roof stays where it is)
3 click lock = lock car, auto mirrors in, put the roof up, windows up
3 click unlock = unlock car, auto mirrors out, put roof down, leave windows down
4 click lock = does the macarena.

Thanks for info guys. I'll try remote again when I have replaced the battery and report back. Just gotta work out which OBD thing is best for registering battery?

Interesting but its only android and I will never go there again. Sure they will release ios version if it passes all the tests required...
I will keep an eye on this.
Luckily I bought my full version of carly as a one off payment before they introduced annual fees
