Hi Mr Rumbler, can it be used to register batteries, also could I use it to see if my headlamp washers have been coded out (and to turn them back on?).
Anyone know for sure if I can register a new battery with this?
And that app is now on a yearly subscription basis.

OK thanks guys. Don’t think I really need to be getting into subscription territory, I wouldn’t make use of it enough to warrant that. I have a cheap Autel code reader that did the job on my E85, but I don’t think that has the technology to register a battery on the E89.
Does seem a bit ridiculous that BMW couldn’t build a sensor into the car to recognise when the battery is changed, hardly rocket s science you’d think given everything else the car can do for itself.
Other than finding a friendly forum member with a Carly what’s the easiest (cheapest gadget) way to register a new battery?

Really! The Generation II adapter came in two versions one for iOS and one for Android. The wireless version was for iOS and the Bluetooth version for Android. Picture below. It works well enough but the killer is the £55 annual subscription. There is no hacked app for iOS. I don’t expect app developers to work for nothing but in my opinion Carly are being greedy. I’m thinking of going over to BimmerCode. Their app is just over £30 as a one off payment and a suitable adapter is about £40. The only downside is you can’t register a new battery without buying BimmerLink for another £30. Not a problem for me at the moment as my battery is new.
