firstly is carly any good ?
i note carly offers full version for 54.90 which is a subscription, but what do you get for that ? im guessing a Bluetooth GEN 2 OBD Adapter plus subscription, but what does the subscription do ? i notice i can get the adapter for 44.90 from amazon. the software i downloaded for my tablet for nothing from google play.. so.. what am i missing ? :?

The dongle and app are separate purchases.

Total bill would have been about £100 in the past, but it’s now that for the first year, with a rolling annual subscription to keep using the app.

The basic app can be downloaded for fre, but that only really tells you if it will work on your car...it won’t do any diagnostics or coding.

so.. best choice is to buy from carly, ok i get that, so.. back to my original question, is there anything out there thats better for the price - i dont want to spend 100's - and . does it only work on beemas ?

The hardware is a separate purchase.

The app is £55 per year. You also need the £45 adapter from Amazon.co.uk. If you're vehicle is < 2004 you also need an additional adapter which is £11

Check the Carly website for what it can & can't do. I personally do own it BUT - their business model is to literally get as much money as possible. You can't buy the old cable any more for < 2004, they changed the app to a subscription model - it's really not affordable (or at least, not justifiable IMO) to the average joe to spend say £120 for something you'll use just a few times.

I was lucky enough to acquire it prior to their business model changing, so I have the full unlocked app "for life" but I wouldn't put it past them to revoke that at some point.

I would suggest, that unless you're going to make really good use of it, I would try and find someone local or within a distance you're happy to travel and borrow theirs for half and hour

Mine works without it?

Do you have the GEN 2 Bluetooth or the WiFi version? I think that's needed actually if you're using the GEN2 bluetooth adapter. At least, that's according to the Carly Website

My experience with Carly was a complete disappointment. Poor support, poor communication, poor quality (1st USB cable they sent was defective), unstable (2nd cable refused to work with some of my Amdroid devices and would only connect with other ones sometimes), erratic fault report (the number of logged faults reported changed between readings, even when as I found out later there was none logged). Limited features out of the box and overpriced if you want full access.
In my opinion i would not recommend it to my worst enemy

Ah yes - the WiFi module is more expensive I believe though.

I only use Android for car related stuff and already had the tablet etc hence why I got carly for android and not for iOS
