Carly connection - advice needed. Solved

Hi
I've just got the Carly cable and downloaded the lite version of the app.
Problem is it won't connect to the car.
I have the ignition on and the red light is lit on the cable. The phone (Motorola style X) recognises the cable and then starts the Carly app. But just spends ages trying to connect. Engine on makes no difference.
I have tried my work phone (Samsung S3) and that worked once.
What am I doing wrong?
Does WiFi need to be on/off. Does Bluetooth interfere with it?
What about virus scanners (Avast/crap cleaner etc.).

I want to get this working before I buy the pro version. Any advice welcome.

Have you chosen the model of car you are connecting to? Should say e85 and a year range

Yeah, done that.
It worked with my works Samsung a3 but I can't buy the app on that , although trying again today it couldn't connect at all.
When you plug the cable in, the app comes up and shows the cable connection as a usb with some sort of address.
Trying to connect it just says wait until a connection is established but doesn't progress any further.

Carly support says to check for any conflicts with antivirus software but I've uninstalled those and still struggling.

Are you using the usb adaptor that came with the obd cable? I found that i could never connect using that so i use a micro to usb plug that came with my samsung phone. Where in the country are you?

I'm in the UK in Brighton.
I've used exactly what came with the OBD cable.
I have an OTG adapter that's for a usb memory stick and report back.
Thanks

I found using ios and the wifi dongle better than using android and cable....

Just tried a different usb adaptor and it worked.
What a palaver! Considering the cable ain't cheap putting a 50p cable from China is just a joke!
