Carly coding for 03 Z4

Hi all!

I’m tempted to get a Carly coder for my Z4. There’s a few bits I’d love to code, but previously heard there’s limited options tor the E85. Would anyone be so kind to let me know what is and isn’t possible?

Ideally I want the powerfold mirrors to fold & retract on locking, lights or indicators lighting up on unlock, roof down from the key. I think that is it for now!

Based in Hampshire if anyone kindly has one for sale

Many thanks in advance.

You won't be able to code those using Carly as far as I'm aware.
Where abouts in Hampshire are you? I'm in Wiltshire and have Carly if you want to try a few things

I see! Still keen to see what is possible.

I’m based in Southampton, that’s very kind and would be really appreciated!

It's a shame it's such an expensive model that Carly follows. I would have bought it earlier but am put off by the ongoing costs.

Legacy users of Carly have lifetime subscription. They changed it a while back, as it’s a more lucrative model to get paid annually for the subscription. Which I get but the yearly cost is quite eye watering.

I best check it all still works. Upgraded my phone the other day and still haven't checked everything is working

Haha brilliant! I hate that sort of admin of a new phone lol.

Let me know, much appreciated!😀

I was one of the early subscribers of Carly, so I have the lifetime deal.

I didn't use it for a few years and after their major update the odb adaptor stopped working. To their credit, they sent me a new updated adapter free of charge. It's come in useful again following a few retrofits that needed some codes and options doing to it.

If you can find someone to help with coding, its great to use and you can code the roof up/down from the key, as well as the audio/visual alerts for locking/unlocking. Mirror tilt/folding are options on Carly, but they don't work. Also, worth noting some options can only be coded on later cars, such as the triple flash indicator.

If you can't find anyone to help, maybe it could be worth picking up a copy of PA Soft BMW Scanner 1.40 - its more technical and the user interface is not as clear as Carly, but can allow for coding of many options just as Carly does

I'm down the road from you, the Z4 does have a few functions you can code with Carly, happy to show you on my Carly.

Check out this link to see what you can code with Carly.

Thanks I'll take a look

Fwiw I couldn't code key remote roof operation via Carly but the Indy did. Odd but I lost remote boot opening as a result.

That is odd. He must off switched that off by accident. You can most definitely do both on the key.

Just for my education - what is the meaning behind to pay yearly fee to Carly ? My understanding is that if I code \ change something once, it remains, isn't it ? Or it remains changed until I have the Carly connected and certified by the yearly fee ?

Thanks, P

Yes, whatever you code using Carly, remains once its been coded via the OBD through the Carly Connected Car app. If your subscription runs out and you don't renew, the changes you have made, remain - they don't revert back to standard just because the subscription lapses.

What some folk do is purchase a Carly OBD either new or used, make the changes they want to do to the car until they are happy and then sell on the OBD reader to someone else once their 12 months subscription is up.

Thanks, as expected. After I perform coding and made changes on SW, allowed by HW of car, the mission of Carly is over to me.

Ideally I should find someone in Hungary who could do this for me, or someone with Carly, but it is not common here :o
