I've just received my Carly wifi adapter so plan to do some coding with my iPhone in next couple of days. Can anyone tell me if I need to have the engine running or just the ignition on when I do this? Plus any other advice is welcome.

I want to start with the following if possible:

Mirrors tilt on reverse
Fold mirrors on locking
Unfold mirrors on unlock
Change short turn signal from 3 to 5
Audible chirp on locking / unlocking
Wipers to go to rest when turning ignition off
Change telephone ringtone.

Any other suggestions for my 2011 sDrive 23i M Sport Auto?
 
Just coded my 2011 and I agree, leave the engine running. The app tells you if the voltage is too low to code.

You'll need to switch off and back on again for every new code.

I just took my time.
 
Dangerous to not have either engine running or external power IMHO...if you are midway through a s/w upload and the power fails then you can be left with a non recoverable corrupted unit...
