Carlube siicone grease-

Hi all-this should be okay to run round the top of my boot seal shouldn't it?-I have heard silicone is bad for rubber but on the box and tube it states to use on rubber door seals etc?

Hi Andy, I think silicone grease is the same as plumbers grease & ok to use on rubber seals-it's normal grease that's a no no as it rots the rubber.

Gummi Pfledge is the one. Used it for years on all my car door seals each Winter.

Just a thought

But you can get rubber grease
As I used to use in my old 205 gti sunroof
Or Vaseline

Vaseline destroys rubber and should never be used...

I'd reckon it would start to soften it fairly quick and over the course of a few months cause permanent damage and swelling to seals. Guess it depends on amount used, temperature, porosity if seals, etc.

Aside that it's messy to apply, water soluble and will attract all sorts of dirt and crud.
