Carbon Wrapping Roll-bar trims

I've been lucky enough to pick-up a spare Ali dash/centre console set, which I've already Carbon wrapped, ready for me to install in the spring (that'll be interesting :? )

I'll do the door handle trims too, which leaves just the roll-bar trims in the chrome line finish.

I'm tempted to wrap these too, but would be interested to hear from anyone who may have already done this as to how it looks.

I also have the OEM wind deflector fitted. Does this affect the application?

I'll post some pics of the wrapped Dash & Console when I get round to it - really pleased with the result, but can't make my mind up about the roll bar trims :dizzy:

They would look good wrapped in c.f. but problem seems to be that the clips break when you take the covers off the car. You might have to buy a new set if that happened.

Funny you posted this as i have a brand new set of covers still in boxes awaiting either spraying or wrapping.

I went for the covers with no holes in as i sold my wind deflector as i never used it so want a plain clean looking roll bar cover.

Have tried spraying them myself with my trusted Halfords Bumper Black which i have used many times on various black plastic car interior parts with good results giving a satin OEM finish but sadly could not get a finish i was happy with on roll bar covers.

Mate of mine recomended someone to wrap them as he has had a lot done on his bike the only thing that concerns me is you have to push them down into a surround when you fit them and was wondering if this would make the wrap ride up and crease

that's exactly what I was wondering might happen - I didn't want to risk getting them apart only to find I couldn't get them back together after wrapping.

Anyone successfully achieved wrapping them?

From my recollection of working on the hoops a couple of years back they sit proud of the rear deck trim, then the gaps are tidied up by pushing in the 2 or 4 black half inserts at the base. I don't therefore think it would be a problem of pushing up the wrap.

As CJ has said there are the rubbers that fit the bottom, if you remove these you could wrap in situ. I would certainly try this first rather than remove the hoops which will break tabs at the very least.

There is a spare set going on ebay at the moment (doesnt mention if the clips are intact) or if it is one with the cut out for the windbreak:

I'm quite tempted to body colour mine.. as with the roof down the silver really looks out of place.

They are the ones for the wind deflector you can see the holes on the far right hoop and if you look at the rest of the parts they have for sale they have the mesh inserts that came of the car was a black roadster.

Good Idea! Might give that a go

I'm looking forward to seeing the results bmwangler! Glad to hear you've done well with the wrap so far.

Hi Matt. The wrap went very well, although in fairness I work around vinyl graphics all the time.

I wouldn't call it exactly easy to get a perfect job, but it can be done with care and patience - it is a bit time-consuming and fiddly though.

As with most things the straightforward bits are easy, but it's the more difficult areas which make the difference between a quality job or not.

Nevertheless, it's hugely satisyfing to do and does look good on the zed IMO

Here's a few pics, I'll post some more when I've fitted them in the car.

That looks great. Looks like you just bought cf trims new from BMW 8)

If I thought I could do mine that well I'd give it a go too

ok, so this was my next task - to get these damn plastic things wrapped / painted. they look so cheap!
Due to be done this week so stay tuned for the pics. Going for Glosss black .... Mmmmmmm.

Its costing me £170 as the bloke said they are a nightmare especially as i have the inserts from the windbreak in there, etc.
Saw some CF wrapped on German Ebay for anyone who was interested -- about 60 quid each, plus then there's the post, nightmare to fit, etc etc.
