With wrapping you have the option to heat the vinyl and stretch it to overcome awkward shapes. But did try wrapping something quite complex at one point. And the wrap ended up in the bin
I can only imagine the skin is at LEAST as difficult.

Having carbon skinned a few sets now, I confirm what Nictrix says, it is a very time consuming process and does require some skill and you will find issues along the way at least I did! $250 for the two hoops is cheap in my book. Here's mine that I did a while back in a somewhat different carbon pattern:
